This week’s Collective Breath is all about extending the exhale.

Many of my patients become very skilled at taking a slow, controlled inhale. But when it’s time to exhale, all that control disappears and the breath rushes out in one big wave.

This week, we’re going to practice extending the exhale and staying connected to the breath all the way to the end. A longer, more controlled exhale can help improve coordination between the diaphragm, core, and pelvic floor while also encouraging relaxation and release.

Remember, the goal isn’t to force the breath or empty your lungs completely. It’s simply to stay present and connected as the breath leaves your body.

Join me for this week’s Collective Breath and see what changes when you give the exhale as much attention as the inhale.

Do you have an unhealthy relationship with your pain?

Sometimes pain and trauma can become so familiar that they start to feel like part of your identity. Then, as healing begins, it can feel difficult to separate yourself from the thing you’ve carried for so long.

As I’ve worked through my own experiences with trauma and pain, I’ve had conversations with myself reminding myself: I am more than the trauma, and I am more than the pain.

Healing is not just about feeling better physically. Sometimes it’s about rediscovering who you are outside of the pain.

What has helped you reconnect with yourself during healing?

Core and pelvic floor strengthening classes can be wonderful for body awareness, movement, confidence, and fitness. But many people are never taught the other half of muscle function: release.

A muscle that stays “on” all the time can become fatigued, tense, less coordinated, and sometimes painful.

The goal is not less strength. The goal is better balance.

Your pelvic floor should know how to contract, lengthen, respond, and relax. 💛

During today’s collective breath, we’re focusing on the exhale instead of the inhale.

Many people struggle with the idea that the inhale is actually the relaxation phase of the breath, while the exhale is the rebound or gentle contraction phase. Focusing on a small abdominal and/or pelvic floor contraction during the exhale can sometimes make it easier for the body to coordinate release during the inhale.

So today, we’re flip-flopping the focus. By emphasizing a small contraction during the exhale, it can become easier to feel the natural release and expansion that happens during the inhale. Sometimes changing where the attention goes is all the body needs to improve coordination and awareness. 💨

When I was creating this video, I almost cut it down to 30 seconds. But as I watched it back, I realized I was completely engaged. I could feel my own body start to relax as I imagined being on the table receiving the treatment myself.

Honestly, that’s often how I approach treatment sessions. I imagine our roles reversed, and I try to provide the kind of care that I would want to receive.

One of the greatest gifts of stepping away from insurance-based care has been the ability to truly treat the whole person. I’m no longer limited by what insurance says you need during a visit. I get to meet you where you are each day you walk into physical therapy.

That kind of care is personal. Intentional. Human.

And it truly is a gift.

“Pelvic PT: because crossing your legs isn’t a treatment plan.” 😅

Leaking, urgency, pelvic pain, constipation, and pressure are common, but they’re not things you just have to “deal with.” Your body deserves more than coping strategies. Pelvic floor physical therapy helps address the why behind your symptoms so you can move, laugh, sneeze, and live with more confidence.

Today’s collective breath is all about finding your pelvic floor.

Diaphragmatic breathing is a powerful tool to help release tension in the pelvic floor muscles. But here’s the reality—if you can’t feel your pelvic floor, it’s hard to truly let it go.

One simple way to build that brain-body connection: sit on a towel roll. That added feedback can improve awareness, and awareness is what leads to a more effective release.

Try it at home and notice what changes.

Don’t forget to like and share with someone who could use this.

Social media loves black and white answers, but real care lives in the gray.

Evidence-based practice isn’t just research. It’s research + clinical expertise + your individual needs.

You deserve care that’s as unique as you are.

A history of constipation does not mean a lifetime of constipation.

I’ve helped many patients move from inconsistent, uncomfortable bowel habits to having a daily, complete p**p using simple, targeted strategies. Breath work, daily movement, and a consistent bowel routine can make a bigger impact than you think and when needed, pelvic floor physical therapy helps address the root cause.

If you’re tired of feeling bloated, uncomfortable, and dissatisfied with your bowel routine, it might be time for a different approach.

Your body is capable of change.
