Lipedema affects an estimated 11% of women, yet so many people have never even heard the word.

Women have spent years being told to eat less, exercise more, and try harder when their bodies weren’t responding the way they were expected to.

As someone who works with women navigating hypermobility, chronic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, and connective tissue disorders every day, I think it’s incredibly important that we keep talking about conditions like lipedema. The more we understand our bodies, the more we can advocate for ourselves and find providers who actually know what they’re looking at.

If this post made something click for you, I hope it reminds you that you deserve answers!!

It’s EDS awareness month. EDS stands for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (named after two doctors who brought awareness to these conditions in the early 1900s). It was officially named in 1936. EDS is a group of heritable connective tissue disorders that are considered “rare.”

It’s important to recognize that not all EDS is hEDS. hEDS= Hypermobile EDS, which is the most common type and may possibly be not all that rare after all.

There are actually 14 types of EDS (although many references will still state 13), and unlike hEDS, 13 of those have a known genetic marker. Meaning, you can do genetic testing and confirm the type and cause of the symptoms. However, these other types are much more rare than hEDS and HSD.

Our founder, Nicole was diagnosed with hEDS when she was 34. She spent over a decade with symptoms without any doctor EVER mentioning this condition. This is why we raise awareness- not just this month- but every month! The more we understand our bodies, the more power we take back over our health.

Please like, save, share, and repost to help us continue to raise awareness about EDS each and every month! 🦓🧡

Most bladder problems don’t start with the bladder. They start with our habits!

“Just in case” peeing
Hovering over toilet seats
Pushing to empty faster
Rushing because life is busy

Over time, your nervous system learns to panic early, to empty before the bladder’s full, and to never fully relax 🚨

Urgency, frequency, and leakage often come from a communication problem between the brain, pelvic floor, and bladder. But the good news is you can retrain this system!

Slow down. Sit with your feet touching the floor (or squatty potty). Breathe. Let the bladder do its thing instead of forcing it 😮‍💨

Bladder retraining is one of the most powerful and underrated things we do in pelvic floor therapy.

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone and it is treatable. Save or share with a friend who may need these reminders! 🚽

Hydration is one of the simplest ways to support your pelvic floor and yet it is often the hardest habit to keep up with.

When you are under-hydrated, your bladder can be more irritated, which can actually increase urgency and frequency. Constipation can also worsen without enough fluids.

Small consistent habits work better than trying to chug water at night to catch up. These are some of our favorite ways to reliably drink more water. Two of our favorite hydration reminder apps are and ! If you struggle with drinking water consistently, give these a try!

Save this for later and send it to the friend who forgets to drink water💧

Kegels are not a one size fits all solution for pelvic health.

They are often recommended for nearly every pelvic concern, but many people are never assessed to see what their pelvic floor actually needs.

For a lot of individuals, pelvic symptoms are driven by tension, poor coordination, pressure management issues, or nervous system dysregulation, and not weakness alone. In those cases, doing more pelvic muscle contractions can increase pain and pressure, and worsen symptoms like leakage, urgency, or prolapse.

Why is this? The pelvic floor does not work in isolation. It works with your breath, core, hips/glutes, nervous system & entire body!

True pelvic floor therapy starts with understanding how your muscles are behaving, how pressure is being managed in your body, and what your daily life is asking of your system. Sometimes that includes kegels. Often it includes learning how to relax, lengthen, coordinate, and integrate your pelvic floor into real movement.

If you have been doing all the kegels and are still struggling, this is your sign that your body deserves a more individualized approach.

Save this for later, share it with someone who has been told to just do kegels, and reach out if you want support that looks at the whole picture 🩵
