The Tampa Bay Community Cancer Network (TBCCN) based at Moffitt Cancer Center, is a community-academic network of 28 community organizations and the cancer center. Housed in the Office of Community Outreach, Engagement, TBCCN is Moffitt’s 18+ year old community-academic partnership to address cancer disparities through outreach, education, and research.

Hosted at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) (124 South Franklin Street, Tampa, FL 33602) on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 10:00am to 12:30pm, expert healthcare professionals and patient advocates will discuss the importance of diet and nutrition, healthcare mistrust in the Hispanic/Latino community, and the future of IBD.

Our very own research community health educator Crystal Gomez will present on the historical perspectives of healthcare mistrust in the Hispanic and Latino community.

On Saturday, September 12, in partnership with MRC Health, the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement along with Moffitt’s screening teams came together in Arcadia, FL to host the 5th and final Kay Yow Event.

With over 500+ community members in attendance, 106 medical staff and volunteers, and 51 participating partner agencies, it was an incredible day focused on prevention and access to cancer and health screenings.

Screenings by the numbers:
• 102 skin cancer screenings
• 96 head & neck cancer screenings (with 5 identified abnormal findings and 12 people referred for further evaluation and follow up care)
• 73 breast cancer screenings
• 3 lung cancer screenings
• 110 blood glucose screenings
• 75 blood pressure screenings
• 40 dental screenings
• 26 vision screenings

A heartfelt thank you to MCR Health, MammoLink, All Faiths Food Bank, the Turner Agri Civic Center, partner agencies, medical staff, volunteers, and residents of Desoto County for helping to make this important event successful!

On July 11, Moffitt Cancer Center, The Stephanie A. Wynn Foundation, Inc., University of South Florida WE-CARE, and Tampa Family Health Centers partnered to host “Get to the Bottom of It”, a community event focused on colorectal cancer awareness. The event was designed to empower individuals with knowledge, reduce barriers to screening, and connect community members with resources.

Highlights included:
⭐ An educational presentation from a colorectal cancer expert
⭐ An engaging panel discussion
⭐ Information about screening options and access to care
⭐ Connections to valuable resources and community partners

We were pleased to welcome 15 participants in person and another 16 attendees through Zoom. Thank you to our speakers, panelists, community partners, and everyone who joined us in advancing colorectal cancer education and prevention.

The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, in partnership with Discovery Science and the Patient and Family Advisory Program, invites you to a Patient Researcher Forum focused on prostate cancer on Wednesday, October 14th. This event is taking place on Moffitt’s Magnolia campus, with a virtual attendance option available via Zoom.

This program will feature a patient perspective and presentations by Dr. Mike Liu, Dr. Conor Lynch and postdoctoral fellow Dr. Haley du Bois. Patients and caregivers attending in person will also have the opportunity to participate in a lab tour.

The Patient Researcher Forum is designed to foster an intimate conversation between Moffitt patients and caregivers with faculty researchers and clinicians. These events are open to all, though advance registration is required.

In collaboration with MCR Health and funded by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, we are excited to host another family-friendly event that includes free health screenings, activities for kids, free backpacks (while supplies last), food trucks, live music, and cancer education and resources.

📢 Attention: Fall enrollment is open for the YMCA Survivorship & Wellness Powered by Moffitt Program 💪

This 12-week fitness and wellness program designed for individuals who have survived cancer is offered in the community at most YMCA of the Suncoast and Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA locations. The program focuses on rebuilding strength, fitness, and building social support with other individuals who have survived cancer.

This Moffitt-sponsored program is offered at no cost to participants and is open to YMCA members and nonmembers. Medical clearance is required by the YMCA to participate, and your local YMCA can provide you with information to share with your doctor.

YMCA Survivorship & Wellness Powered by Moffitt is offered in small groups and led by trained coaches who meet you where you are, so you can exercise safely based on your individual needs. Over time, you will build strength, confidence, hope and camaraderie with others.

✨ The Hardee County Back-to-School Bash on August 1 was a great success! ✨

In collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, the event oversaw the distribution of backpacks and much-needed school supplies to roughly 550 children. Hundreds of families also were served snacks and meals, while also learning about local resources and services available to them. The purpose of the event was to ensure Hardee County students felt prepared and ready to learn as the upcoming school year quickly approaches, and we feel confident that goal was met.

We hope the students and families of Hardee County (and across Florida) are enjoying a wonderful start to the 2026-2027 school year!
