Grief doesn't follow a schedule. It follows the relationship. The longer and closer the relationship, the longer grief tends to ask something of you.
There is no standard timeline for grief, but the people around you often act like there is.
Six weeks out, the calls slow down. Three months out, someone mentions moving forward. A year out, the expectation is that you’re mostly through it.
You may not be. And the gap between where you are and where everyone assumes you should be by now can feel lonelier than the loss itself.
If you’re in Tampa and you're still carrying something the people around you think you should be past, grief counseling can help. Not to speed the process. To make sure you don't have to carry it alone.
