What do people talk about at the end of life?

More than you might expect. And often, the things that have mattered all along.

September is Healthy Aging Month.

At Red Willow Hospice, we believe living well isn’t measured only by how long we live. It’s found in connection, purpose, independence, joy, and the things that make each day meaningful.

This month, we’re celebrating aging in all its complexity, and the importance of supporting quality of life through every season.

Our Albuquerque team at Red Willow Hospice was honored to attend Bernalillo County’s annual burial ceremony for indigent and unclaimed residents at Fairview Memorial Park.

During the ceremony, each person’s name was read aloud and a eulogy was shared in their memory. Each individual was laid to rest with the dignity they deserved.

We’re grateful to have witnessed this meaningful ceremony and to join our community in honoring the lives of those laid to rest.

There are things we think we’ll always have time to ask.

Ask anyway.

Listen to the stories you’ve heard a hundred times. Ask about the ones you’ve never heard. Write down the recipe. Learn where the old photograph came from.

Knowing someone’s story is another way of loving them.

The future of hospice care.

At Red Willow Hospice, we believe end-of-life care should honor the whole person—mind, body, spirit, family, and community.

We’re proud to partner with Golden Willow Retreat to expand grief and loss support beyond the traditional model of hospice. And we’re grateful for the wisdom, presence, and depth that Rev. Dr. Ted Wiard brings to this work.

Together, we’re creating a more holistic path through dying, grief, loss, and healing—because care doesn’t end when hospice does.

This is the future of hospice care. 🤍
