This video is several years old, but it contains a lot of great information. From the amount of terrible family trees I have come across lately, many people need to watch this. Especially the formatting of dates and places, as well as just using maiden names for women. I have seen a growing trend of putting the wife's maiden name in with the husband's middle name. It is causing tons of problems with search results and people thinking it is actually part of that person's name.

One of the most helpful things I have done is to include these notes when I link DNA matches. When I have a DNA match that I am working on, I can click on Shared Matches, then see from the notes for which lines they fit in. For example, a match may have Shared Matches on both my Bumgarner lines and matches on my Burns line. So, I at least know that the person probably descends from that marriage. it also may help an adoptee match that contacts you and who does not their biological parents. you click on your shared matches with them, and can see which lines you share, again hopefully determining a marriage to at least narrow down great-grandparents, great-great-grandparents or 3rd great-grandparents.
Also, it helps when comparing the relationship to the number of cM's to see if it falls in the correct range. if I have a 4th Cousin match, whose cM's are closer to a second cousin match, I know that there may be a closer relationship on another of the matches lines, and I can investigate that line out to find a 2nd set of Common Ancestors.
