Neck and shoulder tension can build up quickly during stress, screen time, or weather changes. A simple way to support the area at home is to apply heat for 10–15 minutes, then follow with slow shoulder rolls and light self-massage at the base of the skull. Keep movements gentle and avoid stretching into pain — often the body responds better to softness than force.

Migraine Self-Massage Tip of the Day

Weather changes can be a major migraine trigger. One area that often contributes to migraine tension is the small muscles at the base of the skull.

Try this simple self-massage:

Place your thumbs at the base of your skull where your neck meets your head.
Gently press upward and hold for about 10–15 seconds.
Slowly make small circular movements while breathing deeply.
Repeat for 1–2 minutes.

This can help release tension in the suboccipital muscles, which often tighten during migraines and headaches.

I recommend trying this in a supine position with a warm compress on your neck to encourage deeper relaxation.
