Myth: hospice requires a DNR.

A single red poppy growing through concrete stopped me on a morning walk. It got me thinking about hardship, leadership, and caregiving in a completely different way.

So many of the abilities people admire in us today came from experiences we never would have chosen for ourselves. Structure instead of chaos. Empathy earned through pain. A kind of steadiness that only comes from living through the hardest chapters.

That poppy wasn’t blooming in spite of the crack. It found a way to grow through it. And you can too.

Choosing hospice isn’t a door that locks behind you. 🤍

One of the biggest fears families carry into this decision is that saying yes means giving up everything else. That it’s final and there’s no changing your mind.

It isn’t. Patients can still receive treatment for conditions unrelated to the terminal illness. And hospice can be revoked at any time, for any reason, including if you decide you want emergency care.

The choice stays yours the whole way through.
