HEAVY LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONSE ON HIGHWAY 84 WEST

Residents may have noticed a significant law enforcement presence earlier today at the apartment complex located at 835 Highway 84 West.

The Teague Police Department was dispatched to the location regarding a barricaded male experiencing a mental health crisis who was reported to have access to a fi***rm and was threatening self-harm.

Upon arrival, officers established a safe perimeter, and neighboring apartments were evacuated as a precaution. All residents were evacuated safely and were unharmed.

Additional law enforcement assistance was requested, and the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office, Freestone County Constables Precincts 2 and 3, and Texas DPS Troopers responded to the scene.

Officers were able to make contact with the individual and safely de-escalate the situation. He was then taken into protective custody without incident or injury and transported to receive appropriate mental health assistance.

No shots were fired, no injuries were reported, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

We appreciate the cooperation of the residents affected and the assistance of our partner agencies.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY & REGISTERED S*X OFFENDER INFORMATION

We’ve recently been tagged in posts from other law enforcement agencies publishing “Do Not Trick or Treat Here” notices involving registered s*x offenders.

Those posts have prompted questions about whether the Teague Police Department will issue similar notices.

Our approach will be a little different.

Texas law makes most adult s*x offender registration information public, but registration alone does not automatically prohibit someone from participating in Halloween activities or handing out candy. Some offenders may have additional restrictions through probation, parole, court orders, or other lawful conditions.

Because of that, we will not label a residence “Do Not Trick or Treat” unless there is a specific legal restriction supporting that designation.

We do strongly encourage parents to review the Texas DPS Public S*x Offender Registry (https://sor.dps.texas.gov/) when planning trick-or-treat routes.

Our goal is to provide accurate information, follow the law, and give families the information they need to make informed decisions.

Plan your route.
Know where your children are going.
Stay alert and stay safe.
Call Police to report suspicious behaviors.

🚨 KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE — WEEK 4
Texas Law + Teague City Ordinance

Before it hits the street, check the plate.

If you plan to operate a golf cart, UTV, or ROV on a public street in Teague, having the proper Texas license plate is required.

✅ Golf carts must display a valid Texas golf cart license plate.
✅ UTVs and ROVs must display a valid Texas unregistered off-highway vehicle license plate.
✅ The required plate must be permanently affixed to the rear of the vehicle.
✅ The plate must be **clearly visible from at least 50 feet.

A golf cart, UTV, or ROV may meet every other requirement and still not be legal for street operation without the proper plate.

And remember: the City ordinance does not replace Texas law. Operators must comply with BOTH applicable Texas law and the City of Teague ordinance.

Before you ride, make sure the vehicle is properly plated.

Know the law. Know the ordinance. Know Before You Ride.

NATIONAL FIRST RESPONDERS DAY

Today, October 28, we recognize National First Responders Day and the men and women who answer the call when our communities need them most.

Here in Teague, we are especially proud to recognize the men and women of the Teague Volunteer Fire Department and Teague Hospital District-EMS, along with the officers of the Teague Police Department who serve this community every day.

We also recognize our fellow first responders throughout Freestone County including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Game Wardens, Freestone County Sheriff's Office, Freestone County Office of Emergency Management, The Fairfield Police Department-Texas, Fairfield Fire-Department, Fairfield EMS, Butler Vfd, Southern Oaks VFD, Donie Volunteer Fire Department, Dew Volunteer Fire Department, Kirvin Volunteer Fire Department, Streetman Volunteer Fire Department , Wortham Police Department, our dispatchers, and the many other public safety professionals serving across the county and surrounding area.

The agencies pictured represent only some of the first responders we are fortunate to work beside. There are many others throughout Freestone County whose service is equally valued and appreciated.

Different uniforms. Different badges. Different responsibilities.

One shared mission: to answer the call and help our communities when they need us most.

First responders routinely meet people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. They respond day and night, in bad weather, on holidays, and whenever the call for help comes.

To every law enforcement officer, firefighter, EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, emergency management professional, and first responder serving Teague, Freestone County, and our neighboring communities:

Thank you for your service, your professionalism, and your commitment to the people we serve.

Happy National First Responders Day.

🚨 KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE — WEEK 3
Texas Law + Teague City Ordinance

If you’re operating a golf cart, UTV, or ROV on a public street in Teague, you are operating in traffic — and the City ordinance requires you to meet the same basic responsibilities expected of other drivers.

✅ You must have a valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle.
✅ You must carry your driver’s license while operating.
✅ You must carry proof of financial responsibility.
✅ You must comply with any restrictions on your driver’s license.
❌ A learner’s permit does not satisfy the requirement.

These vehicles may be smaller than a car or truck, but once they are being operated on a public street, they are sharing the roadway with other traffic.

No valid license or proof of financial responsibility? Don’t take it onto a public street.

Remember: the new City ordinance does not replace Texas law. Operators must comply with BOTH applicable State law and the City of Teague ordinance.

Know the law. Know the ordinance. Know Before You Ride.

🚨 AEDs Going Into Service Across Teague ❤️

The Teague Police Department is expanding access to lifesaving equipment throughout our community.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are being deployed in every Teague Police Department patrol vehicle, placing this critical equipment directly in the hands of officers who may be among the first to arrive during a cardiac emergency.

AEDs are in the process of be placed at several City facilities, including (may be a few days for each to be completed):

- Teague City Hall
- Public Works
- Teague Public Library
- Community / Over 55 Center
- Teague Volunteer Fire Department (replaced theirs with new
upgraded units)

During sudden cardiac arrest, every minute matters. Having AEDs readily available can make a tremendous difference while EMS is responding.

This is another investment in preparedness, public safety, and giving our employees and first responders the tools they need when seconds count.

More locations. Faster access. One goal — saving lives.

Prepared to serve when our community needs us most.

🎀 This One Is Personal. 🎀

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year the pink ribbon carries a little more meaning for the Teague Police Department.

Every member of our staff is wearing the pink ribbon in support of someone very close to our TPD family who is currently fighting breast cancer.

We wear it for her.

We wear it as a reminder of the strength it takes to face this battle, the families who stand beside those fighting it, and the survivors who have walked this road before.

To our family member currently in the fight: you have an entire department standing behind you.

And to every person and family affected by breast cancer, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

🎀 No one fights alone.
