In Chinese medicine, coffee satisfies the bitter taste so lacking in our American diets, which has a stimulating property, moving energy to the chest and heart to support the circulatory and nervous systems. Persons who have a lot of deficient or excess fire (TCM) such as those with hypertension or menopausal symptoms may do better with cooling drinks, such as warm mint or green tea. (This refers to the energetic properties, as opposed to the temperature served.) I recommend finding sources that are pesticide and mold free such as Bulletproof.

You probably don’t need another reason to pour yourself a fresh cup of coffee, but it turns out — consumed in moderation — coffee can pack some serious benefits for your health. Here are some ways that coffee works in your favor.

10 Ways to Boost Mitochondria: "Mitochondrial dysfunction creates a rolling snowball of damage that can gradually grow to affect all biological processes in our body. This happens naturally with age, but improving mitochondrial fitness, their efficacy in generating energy, and their capacity to avoid or repair damage to their biochemical machinery may contribute to a healthier aging process."

Mitochondria sustain human life because they generate the energy that powers our cells. Here are 10 ways to boost our mitochondria.

I have treated hundreds of patients for Bell's Palsy (sudden acute one-sided facial paralysis) over the years. It's definitely important to find a practitioner who is versed in treating Bell's Palsy, rather than a general practitioner. It's been so nice to see that hospitals are quicker to diagnose it and the efficacy of acupuncture to significantly shorten the course and improve outcomes is becoming more widely known. "Studies suggest that acupuncture may help alleviate symptoms, promote nerve regeneration, and improve functional outcomes when combined with standard medical treatments." https://www.mdpi.com/2813-7914/1/3/24

I treat many patients in my office for migraines. TCM evaluates and treats underlying causes, which can be hormonal, rooted in neck tension, or stemming from visual disorders, to name a few. "A 2024 review of research suggests that acupuncture may benefit migraine sufferers by: Reducing the frequency & length of episodes; Reducing pain; Preventing headaches from recurring; Offering fewer side effects than conventional treatments, such as prescription medications."

Migraine sufferers are increasingly turning to acupuncturists and other complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practitioners to find relief. In fact, research shows that acupuncture can also reduce the frequency and length of attacks.

Whenever I recommend veterinary acupuncture for my patients' dogs and cats, people always say they wonder how their pet would ever sit still for it. You'd be surprised + my (highly recommended!) colleague at Cobblestone Veterinary Care has some tricks up her sleeve. Here's some general info I pulled up to help explain its efficacy: "Dogs tolerate acupuncture better than many people expect. As with humans, the sensation is usually more pressure than pain, and most dogs settle and relax once treatment begins, even pets that are typically fidgety or anxious." https://www.dogster.com/dog-health-care/what-vets-say-about-acupuncture-as-a-treatment-for-dogs/

Nearly every day, I see patients experiencing symptoms that are likely related to magnesium deficiency. It’s often life-changing when people start supplementing. I generally recommend magnesium glycinate, but magnesium citrate can be more beneficial for constipation. Here are some other symptoms that can often occur with magnesium deficiency: ”muscle cramps and spasms, diarrhea or vomiting, fatigue and low energy, insomnia, heightened anxiety and/or depression…” and I’ll add migraines/headaches, body odor, and constipation. Obviously, this is not medical advice for you, but observations I see in my practice that might get you thinking.

Dietary magnesium is essential for many essential body functions, including some that might surprise you. Learn more about how much you need and why.
