Years ago, I was in a yoga class with KC Miller. She brought us into child's pose + then asked us to turn our palms upward.
"Surrender Warrior."
And I sobbed.
Something in me understood immediately that surrender was not going to mean giving up. It was going to mean yielding. Dearmoring. Beginning to release the pieces of protection I had gathered over a lifetime, pieces that had once helped me survive but had become heavy, burdensome + no longer useful for the life I was living.
That was nearly fifteen years ago + surrender has never been a one-time act.
Again + again, I have found another piece of armor ready to be thanked + laid down. Another way of being that once carried me but does not need to represent me now.
That ongoing practice has made room for the woman I am today, a woman who can slow down, take a moment, listen inward + choose how she wants to embody herself in this season of her life.
Release is not rejection.
Sometimes it is simply reverence for who we had to become + permission to no longer carry her armor.
What is one piece of armor you're ready to thank + set down? You don't have to explain it. Even naming it here is a small act of release.
