Sleigh bells and sandles!

This is a friendly reminder that our annual Christmas in July donation drive for A New Leaf is still going strong, and it runs through August 7. A New Leaf, previously La Mesita, helps Arizona families move from crisis to stability with housing, food, and the everyday items that turn a house into a home. We are proud to be their longest-running individual donor, and every year our patients are the reason that is true.

If you have been meaning to bring something in, this is your nudge.

Two Ways to Give

1. Bring it by the office. Drop your new, unwrapped items at the front desk during office hours. Stay a minute, enjoy the Christmas music, and wear your holiday best if you are feeling festive.

"What brings you joy? And you can't answer 'your kids.'"

I have been asking women in my office that question for years. The response is almost always the same. Silence. A nervous laugh. Sometimes tears. Sometimes, "I don't know. I haven't thought about that in years."

That question is the foundation of the book I am about to finish.

After 30 years of practice in the same Tempe office, I am closing the doors for one month to finish a 500-page book written for women. Drawn from hundreds and hundreds of conversations many of you have been part of. About the things women carry that they have never said out loud. The grief. The joy that got buried. The nervous system that never gets to rest. The identity that disappeared somewhere between being a daughter and being everyone else's caregiver.

Thermal imaging doesn’t detect cancer — it detects thermal footprints that may indicate physiological changes or inflammation before a lump forms. (Inflammatory breast cancer has no lumps.)
