For some patients with mild-to-moderate knee osteoarthritis, PRP may be considered as one part of an individualized treatment plan.

PRP should not be presented as a cure for arthritis or as a way to regenerate a new joint. The potential benefit is different: selected patients may experience improvement in pain and function.

An orthopedic evaluation can help determine where PRP fits among the available evidence-based options.

Could PRP be an option for you?

PRP may be considered for certain patients whose joint or tendon symptoms continue despite appropriate conservative care. But there is no universal “PRP candidate.”

Your diagnosis, symptoms, prior treatment, imaging, health history, activity level and goals all matter. An orthopedic specialist can help determine whether PRP—or another evidence-based treatment—is appropriate.

Taking care of our community goes beyond the clinic.

At Florida Orthopaedic Institute, we believe caring for people means showing up for them - in our offices, in our communities and wherever we can make a difference.

We were proud to partner with Hunger Fight for the 9th Annual Alachua County Community Outreach Event. A special thank you to Dr. Chancellor Gray and his PA, Javi, for representing FOI and volunteering their time to help make an impact.

Together, volunteers packaged 74,424 meals and helped provide 2,625 books for children in our community.

We’re proud to be part of a team that is committed to helping people move forward - both through exceptional orthopedic care and through service to the communities we call home.

When joint or tendon pain starts changing what you can do, the right question isn’t only “Where does it hurt?” It’s also “What do you want to get back to?”

Walking comfortably? Playing golf or pickleball? Traveling? Exercising? Everyday activities?

For selected patients, PRP may be one minimally invasive treatment option within a personalized orthopedic care plan.

PRP therapy uses a simple process to concentrate platelets from your own blood and place them into the area being treated.

The steps generally include a blood draw, platelet concentration, targeted injection and a personalized recovery plan. Ultrasound guidance may be used when clinically appropriate.

PRP is one possible option within orthopedic care, and a specialist can help determine whether it fits your diagnosis and goals.

For patients living with shoulder pain or limited mobility, progress in shoulder care can mean something very personal: more options and a better chance to get back to what matters most.

That pursuit of progress was on full display as Dr. Mark Frankle delivered the prestigious Neer Lecture at the 2026 International Congress of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery (ICSES) in Vancouver - speaking to a packed room of shoulder and elbow specialists from around the world.

His presentation, “Survival. Resilience. Thriving. Before Innovation...There is Survival. Before Progress...There is Resistance,” explored the perseverance and willingness to challenge convention that can drive meaningful advances in patient care.

We’re proud to share these moments from Dr. Frankle’s presentation and celebrate his continued work to advance shoulder care and create new possibilities for patients.

Five questions. Five answers. A chance to get to know Dr. Villarreal beyond the exam room.
You may know Dr. Eric Villarreal as FOI’s newest foot and ankle specialist, but what do you know about the person behind the practice?
In our "Fast Five", Dr. Villarreal answers five quick questions and gives us a glimpse of his personality beyond the exam room.
Because great orthopedic care is more than expertise. It’s about trust, connection, and feeling comfortable with the person helping you get back to doing what you love.

Dr. Villarreal is now seeing patients in Clearwater. https://bit.ly/4x6sgUh

A bigger, more convenient future for orthopedic care in Gainesville is taking shape.

For patients, that means more access to the care they need - all under one roof.

Our Gainesville team came together for a special Beam Signing, putting their names and messages on a beam that has become a part of the building itself. It was more than a construction milestone. It was a chance to pause, look at how far we’ve come, celebrate the people who have helped build this practice, and look ahead to what we’re creating together with our new location opening in the Spring of 2027.

The new location will offer:
• More exam rooms to better serve our growing community
• Physical and occupational therapy
• Advanced imaging
• Orthopedic Urgent Care
• Comprehensive orthopedic care in one convenient location

The beam is signed. The future is taking shape. And we can’t wait to welcome you home.

👇 Gainesville, what are you most looking forward to in your new home for orthopedic care?

Tell us in the comments - and tag someone who will be excited to see this come to life.

Could your own blood play a role in treating orthopedic pain?
It may, through Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy.

PRP uses a concentrated portion of your own blood. A small blood sample is drawn and processed to concentrate the platelets, then the PRP is placed into the area being treated.

For appropriately selected patients, PRP may help support the body’s natural healing response, reduce pain and improve function as part of a comprehensive orthopedic treatment plan.

But PRP isn’t right for everyone. The right treatment starts with the right diagnosis.

If you’re dealing with ongoing orthopedic pain and wondering whether PRP could be an option, talk with an orthopedic specialist about your condition and goals.
