Just a simple coaching cue for anyone going through ACL rehab or knee rehab in general

Shifting your knee over your toes increases the knee extensor moment. A fancy way of saying your quad takes more load.

Just know, this doesn't make the other technique wrong. In fact, that's a great way to load your hip and glute muscles.

But if you're struggling to feel your quads during ACL rehab, take a video of your squat, lunge, or step down form to check your knee position.

This shouldn't cause pain in the knee and should feel like your quads are working hard. If it does cause pain, you may need to modify your depth, how heavy the weight is, how far you go forward, etc. These are things to best problem solve with a physical therapist or strength coach depending where you are at on your rehab timeline.
