Continuing care doesn’t end when treatment does. It’s one of the most important parts of building a lasting recovery.
Whether your path included Detox, Residential, PHP, IOP, or OP, what comes next matters just as much. Here are a few components worth considering as you move forward:
Alumni groups. Stay connected to the community you started your journey with.
Support groups. 12-Step programs, SMART Recovery, Dharma, Celebrate Recovery, Refuge Recovery.
Therapy. Keep the work going with regular appointments, in-person or remote.
Medication management. Have a psychiatrist to support any medication decisions after treatment.
Sober hobbies. Sports teams, outdoor excursions, creative outlets, service opportunities.
Recovery is ongoing, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Meet Willa! Willa Keel is a Florida native, born and raised in West Palm Beach, and she has spent over 10 years as a nurse after first working as a Medical Assistant for two decades. Her path into nursing was shaped by something deeply personal. A family history of substance use disorder led her to pursue further education so she could take on the addiction epidemic directly, and that motivation has carried through her entire nursing career, which has been devoted entirely to mental health and substance use disorder treatment.
As Director of Nursing at Futures Recovery Healthcare, Willa has built a dynamic nursing department by bringing together nurses from a wide range of medical backgrounds, from emergency room experience to mental health specialties, so that patients receive care from a team that is both clinically skilled and genuinely compassionate.
Willa's leadership reflects a core belief at Futures, that comprehensive, individualized care depends on nurses who understand both the clinical complexity and the human reality of recovery.

Healing trauma starts with one quiet question: where do I feel this in my body?  Anxiety in the chest. Sadness sitting in the throat. In her latest Tea Time segment, Dr. T reminds us that we can only do the deeper work once we feel safe in our own bodies first.
If you’re carrying more than your share, take a moment today. Close your eyes, breathe, and do a gentle body scan. That awareness is a beautiful place to begin.

Angela Bustamante is the Executive Clinical Director of Futures Recovery Healthcare. Her ability to lead with compassion while holding the highest standards of clinical care has carried her through a series of leadership roles throughout her career.
Her path started early. Taking psychology classes in high school gave her a clear sense of purpose and a drive to help people struggling to help themselves. That early vision shaped everything that followed. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from John Carroll University, then completed a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Today she holds a License in Mental Health Counseling and serves as a Qualified Supervisor.
Angela's experience spans the full range of the field. She has worked across non-profit and for-profit organizations, served children, teens, and adults, and treated both mental health and substance use disorders. She has excelled as a clinician, a Clinical Director, and an Executive Director, building real depth at every level.
What drives her most is structuring and building effective programs while staying close to the patients she serves through Dialectical Behavior Therapy and other evidence-based approaches. For Angela, leadership and direct care have always gone hand in hand.

ART vs. EMDR. Two evidence-based trauma therapies. What’s the difference?
Both are supported by research for PTSD, yet they aren’t interchangeable. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, typically over six to twelve sessions. Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) pairs eye movements with voluntary image replacement, often completed in one to five sessions.
At Futures, our clinicians choose between these modalities based on the complexity of the trauma, a patient’s readiness, and treatment goals. Stabilization always comes first. From there, ART or EMDR is integrated alongside DBT, CBT, and family work for a fully coordinated plan.
Swipe through to see how our clinical team approaches this decision.

Meet Julie Snell, Wellness Program Manager at Futures Recovery Healthcare.
Julie is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Master, and Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage practitioner whose work is rooted in the belief that healing happens when the mind, body, and nervous system are treated as one system, not separate problems.
She brings therapeutic bodywork, Reiki, mindfulness, and wellness education into every program she builds, always to complement clinical care and support long-term recovery. Julie is also the author of Wounds to Wings: A Healer’s Guide to Transforming Trauma, a book born from her work with patients that explores trauma healing through mindfulness, body awareness, and self-compassion.
Her passion has always been helping individuals rediscover resilience, restore balance, and reclaim their path forward.
We’re grateful for the wholeness Julie brings to our community every day.

Sometimes the hardest part of trauma is not what happened, but what we told ourselves about it. In her latest Tea Time segment, Dr. T talks about negative cognitions: the quiet beliefs like "it was my fault" or "I should have known better" that keep us stuck long after the moment has passed.

If you notice that voice today, try this. Write down what you are telling yourself, then gently ask why. You are allowed to see yourself with more compassion than that. You do not have to work through it alone asking for help is the first step to healing.
