Unhealed trauma doesn't always look like what people expect. It can show up as people pleasing, emotional numbness, anxiety, perfectionism, difficulty trusting others, fear of abandonment, anger, or feeling constantly on edge.

Trauma affects both the mind and body. Even after a difficult experience is over, your nervous system may still be responding as if you're in danger. Healing starts with recognizing the signs, understanding your triggers, and learning healthier ways to cope.

If you've ever wondered why certain situations feel overwhelming or why old emotional wounds keep resurfacing, you're not alone.

💬 Healthy Communication Isn’t About Winning—It’s About Understanding.

Good communication is a skill, not something we’re simply born knowing. Whether you’re talking with a partner, family member, friend, or coworker, these small changes can make a big difference:

✨ Listen to understand, not just to respond.
✨ Use “I” statements instead of blame.
✨ Be curious before making assumptions.
✨ Validate feelings, even when you don’t agree.
✨ Take a break if emotions become overwhelming—and come back to the conversation.
✨ Remember that your tone matters just as much as your words.

Healthy communication doesn’t mean you’ll never have conflict. It means you learn to navigate conflict with respect, honesty, and empathy.

💙 Ask yourself:
What’s one communication habit you’d like to improve this week?

Share your answer in the comments, or simply take a moment to reflect. Every conversation is an opportunity to build stronger, healthier relationships.

What is EMDR, and how does it work?

If you’ve ever felt like your mind knows you’re safe, but your body still reacts as if the past is happening all over again, you’re not alone.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process distressing or traumatic memories so they no longer feel as overwhelming.

During EMDR, you’ll briefly focus on a difficult memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or alternating tones). This helps the brain reprocess the memory in a healthier way.

EMDR doesn’t erase your memories or make you forget what happened. Instead, it helps reduce the emotional intensity connected to those memories so they no longer have the same hold on your daily life.

EMDR may be helpful for:
• Trauma and PTSD
• Anxiety and panic
• Phobias
• Grief and loss
• Negative beliefs about yourself
• Other experiences that continue to impact your emotional well-being

Healing doesn’t mean forgetting your past—it means your past no longer controls your present.

If you’re curious about whether EMDR might be right for you, I’d be happy to answer your questions.

Who Can Benefit from Trauma Therapy?

Many people hear the word trauma and think it only applies to major life-threatening events. The truth is, trauma can result from many different experiences, and it can affect each person differently.

Trauma therapy may be helpful if you:
• Feel stuck in the past or replay difficult memories.
• Experience anxiety, panic, or constant worry.
• Have trouble trusting others or maintaining relationships.
• Feel emotionally numb or disconnected.
• Struggle with low self-worth or shame.
• Find yourself constantly on edge or easily startled.
• Avoid certain places, people, or situations because they remind you of painful experiences.
• Notice that past experiences continue to affect your daily life.

You don’t have to “have it worse” than someone else to deserve support. If your experiences continue to impact how you think, feel, or live, your pain is valid.

Healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone. 💙

Anxiety Is More Than “Just Worrying”

When people think of anxiety, they often picture someone who worries a lot. While worry can be part of anxiety, it often goes much deeper than that.

Anxiety can look like:
• Constantly overthinking conversations or decisions
• Feeling like you always need to prepare for the worst
• Racing thoughts that won’t slow down
• Difficulty concentrating
• Trouble falling asleep because your mind won’t “turn off”
• Feeling restless or on edge, even when nothing seems wrong
• Muscle tension, headaches, or stomach issues
• Irritability or feeling easily overwhelmed
• Avoiding situations that feel uncomfortable or unpredictable
• Feeling exhausted from always being in “go mode”

Sometimes anxiety isn’t loud. It can look like being highly productive, always staying busy, or feeling like you have to keep everything under control just to feel okay.

Anxiety is your nervous system trying to protect you—but sometimes it stays in protection mode long after the danger has passed.

You don’t have to live in survival mode forever. With the right support and tools, it is possible to feel calmer, more present, and more in control.

💙 If this sounds familiar, know that you’re not alone.

✨ Meet Your Therapist ✨

Hi, I’m Kaytie Sebastian, MSW, LCSW.

I’m a licensed clinical social worker who is passionate about helping individuals heal, grow, and rediscover their strengths. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel heard, supported, and accepted without judgment.

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, and emotional overwhelm. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and use evidence-based approaches tailored to each person’s unique needs.

My goal is to help clients not only manage symptoms but also understand the “why” behind their experiences so they can create lasting change.

When I’m not in the therapy office, I enjoy spending time with my family, finding moments to recharge, and appreciating the little things that bring joy to everyday life.

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy, know that you don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Healing begins with one conversation.

💙 I’m honored to walk alongside my clients as they take that first step.
