🧿Witchy Wisdom: The Rules of Hoodoo 🧿

1. You must request protection from your ancestors. Your ancestors don’t automatically protect you. Protection is not your birthright. Protection is one of the spoils of war, and as such, you have to petition your ancestors for it.
2. Mason jar magic is simple to explain but extremely dangerous to meddle with. Mason jar magic requires you to bottle a gumbo of magical herbs and intentions without releasing them into the universe. In the same way you trap negative spirits in your home when you don’t open the windows during saging exercises, you are also trapping your intentions inside of those sugar and sour jars you create.
3. Florida water is not an offering you should ever leave to your ancestors. It’s poisonous to them.
4. Hoodoo practitioners and witches are not similar. They do not have the same lineage and do not draw their power from the same sources/astral places. A witch does not share an intimate relationship or divine connection with melanated entities like the Orisa, lwa, Harriet Tubman, and Mansa Musa.
5. Your dearly departed ancestors are some of the most unreliable and biased spirits you can work with. You should work with ancestors who have been elevated by God. This is because they are authorized to spiritually guide you, have existed for millennia, and can control the cosmos in ways your recently departed ancestors cannot.
6. A well-fed ancestor cannot win a fight against a well-fed deity like an Orisa or a Lwa. The ancestors should not engage spiritual battles with primordial entities who nourish themselves from animal sacrifice. Your ancestors will not win a fight against a deity. When they were on this earth, deities had dominion over the ancestors. And when they leave this earth, deities will STILL have dominion over them. Choose your battles wisely.
7. Shadow work doesn’t heal your bloodline. Ancestral veneration heals your bloodline. Shadow work helps to break generational curses. It prevents you from transferring pathological behavior to your children. Ancestral veneration heals those who came before you. Shadow work heals yourself and those who come after you.
8. People you meet on social media websites, like Facebook, will claim they come from a lineage of hoodoo practitioners. Most of those people are lying and monopolizing on a knowledge gap that can’t be fixed. If they came from a lineage of real practitioners, they would have a family graveyard, apothecary, botanica, magical garden, or a family grimoire. If they don’t have these things or something similar, then they are lying.
9. You must always conduct a divination when you do magic. You put yourself and your ancestors in danger when you do magic without a divination. You can potentially send your ancestors to Hell or get them stolen by an experienced priest or practitioner. You must do divinations to receive forewarnings of dangers and challenges that come as an effect of your magic.
10. When you work with deities and entities you have no bloodline connection/authorization with (e.g. Hecate, Aphrodite, Athena, Vishnu, Shiva, fairies, demons), you put your ancestors in danger. They have to exchange spiritual currency with those deities and entities. They pay extremely high fines on your behalf to work with these unfamiliar spirits. It’s best for hoodoo practitioners to work with entities their family has developed a working relationship with. Stop networking with spirits from cultures and lineages that aren’t yours. That’s what witches do, not hoodoo practitioners. If you are ECLECTIC THIS DOESNT APPLY TO YOU.
