The UAMS Southwest team was celebrated with a Bravo Break today. Employees were served lunch, door prizes were awarded, and everyone walked away with free UAMS swag. UAMS Regional Campuses vice chancellor Brian Jones, DHSc, shared a few words of encouragement as well.

The MVP for June 2026 from the UAMS Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and the Primary Care and Population Health Service Line is Sunni Helton. Helton is a diagnostic radiology technologist at the UAMS Southwest Family Medical Center in Texarkana.

She will receive a certificate of recognition and a gift bag and will be honored during the annual DFPM Research Symposium.

UAMS Chancellor Lowry C. Barnes, M.D., hosted a town hall at UAMS Southwest this week. He liked the interaction from the employees, who got a UAMS t-shirt if they asked a question. Staff, faculty and residents brought up issues such as insurance coverage and the need for more psychiatric and maternal health care.

UAMS Chancellor Lowry C. Barnes, M.D., spoke to employees at UAMS Southwest this week, discussing healthcare issues the program faces. Barnes' liked the interaction, throwing t-shirts to all those who asked questions which ranged from insurance to the need for more psychiatric and maternal care for patients.

Looking back at the last few days of MASH! The 2026 group was absolutely dialed in on casting! Thank you to Wiley Abbott, DO, and Mike Downs, MD, for teaching and working the saw! We really enjoyed learning about the services at opportunities and learning from our faculty member, Dr. Michael Page, about suturing and family medicine. As always, students enjoyed hearing from Dr. Loren Robinson, Chief Medical Officer for CHRISTUS St. Michael - always open and honest about medicine and life. The students only asked her a thousand questions!

A note from Camp Director, Destiny Carter: These students were extremely impressive and attentive this year. I will truly miss this group, but I will be following along with their successes! They have what it takes to be the next generation of medicine!
