Rheumatoid arthritis is often misunderstood as simple wear and tear on the joints. It is actually an autoimmune disease, which means the immune system mistakenly attacks the lining of the joints. That is why rheumatoid arthritis tends to affect the same joint on both sides of the body, and why it can bring fatigue and low grade fevers along with pain.
The signs many people notice first are stiffness in the hands, wrists, or feet that lasts longer than thirty minutes in the morning, joints that feel warm or swollen, and a level of tiredness that rest does not fix. Because early treatment can help protect the joints over time, it is worth mentioning these symptoms to your primary care provider or asking about a referral to a rheumatologist.
Treatment plans vary quite a bit from person to person. Some people do well on oral medications. Others are prescribed a biologic or biosimilar therapy that is given as an infusion or an injection. Your provider may discuss options that include infused therapies, and if one of those is right for you, we can deliver it right here in Texarkana instead of sending you down the road.
If your provider has recommended infusion therapy for rheumatoid arthritis, please give us a call. We are happy to walk you through what to expect.
