🇺🇸LARRY SWEET - US ARMY VETERAN🇺🇸

Mr. Sweet was recently honored at Bailey Creek Health and Rehabilitation for his military service in the U.S. Army.

Larry's story is one worth telling. A Mechanical Engineering graduate, he knew he wanted a red corvette but waited a couple of months to see if he was going to be drafted. After that he decided to purchase the car, then received notification he was being drafted to the United States Army. He chose to give his car up, knowing it wasn't feasible to keep it while being deployed. He never got it back, something he laments to this day.

From 1970 to 1971, Larry served in Germany, where he worked on nuclear warheads during one of the most consequential periods of the Cold War. When the United States reduced its forces by 225,000 soldiers, Larry volunteered to end his military career early. When asked what he remembers most about his time in the Army, Larry didn't hesitate. "Everyone jumped in to do their job and do it well because our country depended on it."

As part of the ceremony, he was given a certificate of appreciation and lapel pin. Mrs. Sweet was also in attendance for the ceremony. Volunteers Greg Sutton; Navy Veteran, and Darrell Henson; Air Force Veteran, Danielle Anderson, and Brandy McMillion assisted with the ceremony.

We are so thankful for Mr. Sweet and his service to our country.

Hospice of Texarkana is asking the community for individually wrapped snacks and canned/bottled drinks for families of patients in our Inpatient Care Center.

We at Hospice of Texarkana not only care for our patients, but we recognize the strain on their caregivers. As a small respite, we are able to provide snacks and drinks to those caregivers who have a loved one in our care center. This may seem like a small gesture, but it allows our family members and loved ones to remain at the care center without having to leave to grab a drink or snack. We have a variety of snacks ranging from high protein and healthy to a sweet indulgence.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated and utilized, said Nancy Thomas, director of supportive care services at Hospice of Texarkana.

Donations can be dropped off at Hospice of Texarkana, 2407 Galleria Oaks Drive, Texarkana, TX.

Needed snacks include individually wrapped cookies, small bags of chips or Goldfish, fruits, nuts, trail mix or items shown in picture.

For more information about how to help, call 903-794-4263.
