Farenga Bros. Inc.

Farenga Bros. Inc. Farenga Brothers Funeral Home has been locally and independently owned for 5 generations. The Farenga family began directing funerals in 1896.

Salvatore Farenga grew up in the East Harlem community and worked in funeral service with his family for many years. We quickly became known for our integrity and desire to help those in need. In 1957 Farenga Bros. Funeral Home moved to the Eastchester section of the Bronx. Since then the funeral home at 920 Allerton Avenue has been expanded, renovated, and continues to stand as a mainstay in the

community. Now in the 5th generation of the Farenga family, Sal Anthony and his brother Nick have continued the family legacy of providing lasting tributes and have followed their father and grandfather’s example of becoming deeply involved in the community. Creating an atmosphere of trust and serving with the highest level of respect and dignity is our highest priority.

The service is over. The food has been put away. The last car has pulled out of the driveway.

And suddenly, the house is silent.

This is one of the loneliest moments in grief, and almost no one talks about it.

For days, people surrounded you. There were calls to make, hands to hold, things to arrange. The busyness, as painful as it was, kept you moving. And now it's just... quiet.

The grief that lives in that silence is real. It's not a sign that something is wrong with you. It's a sign of how deeply you loved.

Today is National Grief Awareness Day. We're thinking of every family who has ever stood in that silence.

If this describes where you are, drop a ❤️ below. Sometimes just knowing others understand makes the quiet feel a little less heavy.

Do you know the difference between a eulogy and an elegy?

A eulogy is a speech or piece of writing that praises someone or something highly, typically someone who just died.

An elegy is a poem of serious reflection, typically a lament for the deceased.

Have you ever heard either of these at a service?

Talking to kids about grief isn’t easy, but it matters.
Here are some quick dos and don’ts that can help when discussing loss with children:

DO:
- Go first.
- Tell the truth about how you feel.
- Remember that each child is different.
- Be patient.

DON'T:
- Don't say, "don't feel sad" or "don't feel scared."
- Don't compare their lives or situations to others in the world.
- Don't act strong for your children.

Parents and caregivers: what’s your biggest safety reminder for back-to-school season?

Every child waiting at a bus stop is someone’s whole world.

As students head back to school this August, we’re asking our community to slow down, stay alert, and follow school bus safety laws.

When a bus stops, children may be crossing from places you cannot see. That quick decision to stop, wait, and pay attention matters more than most of us will ever know.

Let’s all do our part to protect the kids heading back to class.
