We came, we saw, we listened...and we FEEL better knowing there are doctors who hear us and can validate what we’re going through right now. We learned SO much last night at Estrogen, Interrupted: Perimenopause Q&A with the Experts Who Wrote the Book, including:

💗 Why we might feel vastly different from the way we felt last month...or how we’ll feel 3 months from now.
💗 That while menopause hormone therapy is the gold standard for treatment of symptoms, it’s not the be-all, end-all. It’s not the secret to longevity. It’s not the only way to feel better. And our doctors aren’t necessarily dismissing us if they recommend birth control instead.
💗 Why our belly shape is changing - that it’s actually trying to HELP us produce more estrogen as our ovaries sputter out. And how our nutrition and exercise focuses might need some tweaking during this phase of life to keep us healthier longer.
💗 How to decipher misleading messaging and overpromises, notice sales pitches disguised as unbiased health information, and look for trusted sources when it comes to all the perimenopause noise out there.
💗That Black women on average experience perimenopause earlier, longer, and more severely than white women - and that this has an impact on other areas of their health. We’re committed to validating those differences and supporting health equity for all.

Dr. Rebecca Dunsmoor-Su and Dr. Amy Voedisch decided to write a book for the same reason we wanted to host this event: There’s so much more nuanced information about perimenopause than can be conveyed in a menopause consultation visit - even a visit with certified experts. We’re committed to supporting our patients through this journey and will be sharing more trusted resources and information on perimenopause in the future. To start, check out our perimenopause resource hub at https://vpfw.com/resources/topics/perimenopause.
