There is a lot of misinformation being posted and shared right now given a local news story. Your strong reactions are a normal response, too. Unfortunately a postpartum experience often has to escalate to tragedy to get media attention.

Postpartum Psychosis is a serious medical emergency. However, most people who do experience PP do not harm themselves or anyone else. There is a risk of danger when psychosis includes delusional thinking and irrational judgement. Do NOT turn avoid a mama who is having a hard time.

It can be overwhelming as a spouse, a support person, or a family member, when a new mother is in crisis. BUT HELP IS AVAILABLE!!!

Call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 833-852-6262. Available 24/7 to speak to a counselor trained in maternal mental health to help advise on next steps.

What I appreciate most in this season of my career is the opportunity to speak about the areas of mental health that matter most to me. It was truly an honor serve as one of the keynote speakers to bring awareness to maternal mental health, especially perinatal mental health at this year’s 5th Annual Brunch on the Bayou CE event.

I’m passionate about continuing to share knowledge on the impact of pregnancy and the postpartum period on mental health and overall well-being. One meaningful way to lessen that impact is through education, equipping clinicians and providers with the tools and insight needed to better support women and families during the postpartum journey.

Thank you to the ladies of EPIC Outreach and Revive Counseling and Consulting for creating a space where clinicians can pause, reflect, and reconnect with the purpose behind the work we do.

It was also a privilege to represent Baton Rouge Perinatal Counseling, LLC, a collective of clinicians committed to closing the gap in perinatal mental health and providing specialized, compassionate care to this community.

My heart is so full 🩷
