Last Wednesday, we had a Garden Harvest day. Residents learned about some different local crops and ate fresh veggies. Unfortunately, we didn't get to munch on any of our own vegetables because we had a deer who very happily ate up our garden a couple of weekends ago. We even had a little grasshopper friend that hitched a ride on the sunflower when it was brought in - after our activity, he was released back outside on a leaf. Residents also tried to come up with a vegetable for every word of the alphabet. We got 24/26 letters with minimal help from Google; Q and X stumped the whole group, though. How are your gardens looking? 🌻🌽🫛

Scientific studies show that practicing gratitude has positive effects on both our brains and our bodies; it reduces blood pressure, lowers stress, and helps improve sleep. This weekend, residents listed things they are grateful for, and we created a Gratitude Garden at the front of the building. Afterward, we got some sunshine therapy and spent some time with our unofficial Activities mascot, Jax. ☀️😎🌻

The Gratitude Garden is open for everyone to add to - residents, staff, and visitors. Be sure to stop by and fill out your own flower to post!

Tuesday, we kicked off our Country of the Month activities with our August country: Japan! Residents learned about Japanese history, culture, and food in the afternoon; they even practiced saying some words in Japanese. After supper, we did a Japanese cherry blossom craft that the residents really enjoyed and it turned out super cute! Stay tuned this month for more Japan-themed activities! 🎌
