🎉✨ Happy 2-Year Work Anniversary, Jamie Hartsfield! ✨🎉

Today we’re celebrating Jamie Hartsfield, one of our incredible Medical Laboratory Technicians, on her 2-year anniversary with The Pediatric Center! 💙

Jamie plays an important role in caring for our patients and families every day. From helping children feel comfortable during lab work to providing timely, accurate testing right here in our office, she is always willing to go the extra mile with a smile.

Her kindness, dedication, and compassion make a difference in the lives of so many families, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of our team. Having an onsite lab professional helps us provide efficient, high-quality care, and Jamie does an amazing job making that happen.

Please join us in congratulating Jamie on this milestone and thanking her for all she does for our patients, families, and staff! 🎉💙

Happy Anniversary, Jamie! We are so lucky to have you as part of The Pediatric Center family. 💙

☀️ Protect All the Skin You’re In! ☀️

As the temperatures rise and families spend more time outdoors, it’s important to remember that sun protection is about more than just sunscreen. The CDC recommends using a layered approach to help protect your child’s skin from harmful UV rays.

🧴 Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours, as well as after swimming, sweating, or toweling off.

👒 Wear a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing when outdoors.

🌳 Seek shade whenever possible, especially during midday hours when the sun’s rays are strongest.

Sunscreen works best when combined with other sun protection measures, such as shade and protective clothing.

All information provided by the CDC.

🕷️ Tick Season Is Here! Here’s What Parents Need to Know 🕷️

With warmer weather comes more time outdoors—and unfortunately, more ticks. While most tick bites are harmless, some ticks can carry germs that may cause illness.

✔️ Check your child for ticks after playing outside, especially:
• Scalp and hairline
• Behind the ears
• Under the arms
• Around the waist
• Behind the knees

✔️ If you find a tick:
• Use fine-tipped tweezers
• Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible
• Pull straight up with steady pressure
• Clean the area with soap and water
• Save the tick if you’re concerned about identification

📞 Call your pediatrician if your child develops:
• Fever or chills
• A rash (especially a bull’s-eye rash)
• Headache
• Muscle or joint aches
• Swollen lymph nodes
• Unusual fatigue

The best protection is prevention! Wear long sleeves and pants in wooded areas, use insect repellent as directed, and perform tick checks after outdoor activities.

💙 If you have any questions about a tick bite, we’re here to help!

Rotavirus is a common viral illness that can cause significant stomach symptoms in young children.

Symptoms usually begin 1–2 days after exposure and may include watery diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal pain.

While most healthy children recover within 3–7 days, some can become dehydrated and may require hospitalization.

💧 Signs of dehydration can include:
• Dry mouth
• Fewer wet diapers or urination
• Fatigue or decreased activity
• Crying without tears

The good news? The rotavirus vaccine is an oral vaccine that helps protect against rotavirus and can greatly reduce the severity of illness. 💙

If you have questions about the rotavirus vaccine or your child’s symptoms, talk with your pediatrician.

🇺🇸☀️ Memorial Day weekend means sunshine, swimming, boat rides, and making memories with family — but it’s also important to keep water safety top of mind.

Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, even with adults nearby. A few simple precautions can help keep children safe around pools, lakes, rivers, and the beach:

💙 Always supervise children around water — stay within arm’s reach of young swimmers
🛟 Use properly fitted life jackets when boating or around open water
🚪 Make sure pools have barriers, gates, or secure access points
☀️ Don’t forget sunscreen, hydration, and shade breaks
🏊 Teach children water safety rules early and enroll in swim lessons when appropriate

The best Memorial Day weekends are the ones filled with safe memories. ❤️🤍💙

From all of us at The Pediatric Center, we hope your family has a fun, relaxing, and SAFE holiday weekend! 🇺🇸🐣

👶💙 Meeting a newborn soon? Small precautions can make a BIG difference in keeping babies healthy and protected.

Newborn immune systems are still developing, which means simple steps from family and friends can help reduce the spread of illness and keep little ones safe.

Before visiting a baby, remember to:
✔️ Wash your hands
✔️ Stay home if you’re feeling sick
✔️ Be up to date on recommended vaccines (Tdap, flu, COVID when appropriate)
✔️ Avoid kissing newborns
✔️ Keep visits short and calm
✔️ Always respect the parents’ wishes and boundaries

Parents set rules because they love and want to protect their baby — and those rules deserve support. 💙

A little extra caution today helps protect our tiniest patients tomorrow. 🩺🐣
