It’s called colostrum — and it is anything but “not enough.”

Here’s what you need to know:

🌟 Colostrum is thick, concentrated, and incredibly nutrient-dense. Your baby only needs a few teaspoons in those first days — and that’s exactly how much you make.

🛡️ It’s packed with antibodies, white blood cells, and immune factors that coat your baby’s gut and protect them from the outside world. It’s sometimes called “liquid gold” — and it earns that name.

📏 Your newborn’s stomach is about the size of a marble on day one. Small volume is not a flaw. It’s perfect design.

🍼 Your milk will transition and increase in volume around days 3-5. Until then, colostrum is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.

So if someone tells you that you “don’t have enough milk” in those first few days — know that your body is right on schedule.

Save this for the early days. You’re going to do great. 🌿

“Is my baby eating AGAIN?”
Yes. And that’s actually a really good sign. 🌿
Here’s why breastfed newborns eat so often — and why it’s completely by design:
🤱 Breast milk is perfectly tailored to your baby’s tiny stomach — which means it digests quickly. Formula takes longer to digest, which is why formula-fed babies often go longer between feeds.
📏 A newborn’s stomach is about the size of a cherry on day one. It grows fast, but in those early days, frequent small feeds are exactly what it needs.
⚡ Frequent feeding is also how your supply gets established. Every time your baby nurses, your body gets the signal to make more milk. Skipping feeds in those early weeks can actually work against your supply.
So if your baby wants to eat every 1-2 hours— they’re not broken, you’re not failing, and you don’t have low milk supply.
They’re just doing their job. And doing it well.
Questions about newborn feeding? Drop them in the comments — I’m happy to help. 🌿

One thing I wish more families knew before their baby arrived:

Crying is actually a LATE hunger cue.

By the time a newborn is crying, they’ve been trying to tell you they’re hungry for a while. Earlier cues are much easier to respond to — things like rooting (turning their head side to side), bringing their hands to their mouth, or making sucking motions.

Feeding at those early cues instead of waiting for crying makes latching easier, feeds go smoother, and everyone is a lot calmer.

This is one of those things that sounds small but genuinely changes the first few weeks. Happy to answer any questions about newborn feeding cues or breastfeeding prep in the comments!
