Dr. Sarah Noseworthy

Dr. Sarah Noseworthy Family Doctor and Acupuncturist focused in Alternative Medicine and Holistic Health Care Then, I discovered Naturopathic medicine and acupuncture. Are you ready?

Dr. Sarah Noseworthy is an Oregon licensed Naturopathic physician and acupuncturist. She recently completed a one year residency at the National College of Natural Medicine, where she graduated with her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and with high honors in the Masters of Acupuncture. Prior to her doctoral education, Dr. Noseworthy graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Arts in English

and a Bachelor’s of Science in Philosophy with an emphasis in Religious Studies from East Tennessee State University. As a family practice physician, Dr. Noseworthy enjoys seeing people of all ages, but is particularly interested in stress and pain management, women’s health and GI health. She uses many holistic treatment options which include: acupuncture, Activator Technique, nutrition, homeopathy, UNDA drainage, botanical tincture formulation, and pharmaceutical management. In her spare time, she loves spending time with friends and family, playing games, and dancing. My Testimony:

I’ve always been interested in helping people and knew that I wanted to be a doctor at a young age. After my first year in college, I switched majors to English and Philosophy when I realized I didn’t want to be a conventional doctor and I had no knowledge of Naturopathic medicine at the time. I later discovered that Tennessee was one of the two states where Naturopathic medicine is still illegal. I used to suffer from terrible menstrual cramps as I was growing up and I always hated the idea of just taking pain killers to mask the symptoms. Combined, this medicine changed my life. I have seen so many amazing results from both Naturopathic and Chinese medicine. These work really well to decrease stress and pain, as well as increase energy and happiness. I want to share this knowledge with everyone! I have seen many chronic conditions reversed and patients’ lives greatly improved. I am excited to be part of your team and would love it if you would help me spread the news about how Naturopathic medicine and acupuncture can help other people get their lives back! My Philosophy of Health:

I believe that people have a desire to feel better, but frequently stress or pain gets in the way of that. We all experience stress and get frustrated with the symptoms that stress and pain cause. Stress comes from multiple sources: work, injuries that haven’t healed appropriately, emotional overwhelm, illness, pain, poor dietary or lifestyle choices, etc. These are barriers to healing. A program to restore your health begins with an investigation of what is happening in your unique case and what barriers to healing are standing in the way of restoring you to a healthy balanced life. From there, we create solutions to your symptoms and find the best way to help you feel better as fast as possible. This helps you get your life back. After we get your symptoms under control; then, I shift you into a strengthening health program so that your symptoms stay away. As you feel stronger and more empowered, I’ll be excited to graduate you into our healthy living program to help you live a more enjoyable life. The best path for you begins with this investigation and allows for the fastest recovery and a better life. Any information posted to this page is not to be a substitute for receiving medical care.

I'm very excited for this new reference material! I had the opportunity to study under Jill Stansbury at NUNM.

Dr. Stansbury is a world class herbalist and I am so thankful that she put this series together to help more practitioners help their patients better.

Her new series on herbalism is the perfect Birthday gift for myself! 😄🥳🎉

It's world book day! 📚

As an avid reader I often will discuss books with patients. Here are 3 books I find myself regularly recommending:

📗 Atomic Habits by James Clear is the gold standard of evidence-based habit forming books. It teaches effective and approachable strategies to create the person you truly want to become. I read this book at least once a year.

📕 Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss and Tahl Raz uses hostage negotiation to teach concepts such as persuasive communication and active listening. Chris Voss is a former FBI hostage negotiator so the stories in the book of what went great and what went terrible with negotiations and some strategies you can use in your life. Great book to read before going in for interviews and raises.

📘 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do by Amy Morin is in my new top 5 favorite books. Disclaimer: I was really resistant to reading this one, because I prefer to focus on the positive aspects of life, but when I started reading it I realized there is information to help almost all my patients in this book. I believe there is a chapter for everyone. It provides guidance to help improve your mental strength and emotional stability much like weight training improves your physical strength.

What other books do you love? Request from the Book Wyrm. 📔🐉

Happy Pi(e) Day!!!! 🥧

Pi Day is one of my favorite of the assorted holidays. This year, I had to brain storm how to celebrate. In observation of Lent, I avoid caffeine and sweets until Easter. Luckily today at 1:59pm New Seasons had a frozen option 🧊 that will be waiting for me until then. How are you celebrating today?

'To heal the whole person through individualized treatment.' - This is my favorite tenet of my oath.

One of the first things I do when I work with a new patient is to gather the details of his / her story, because it is unique to them. I am so thankful that there are so many options that successful people choose: some have a great morning routine, some hop on social media first thing, some end a shower with a cold spritz, some absolutely think that is a terrible idea. Customizing your treatment plan and habits help them work better for you.

For instance, one of my patients had gotten off of her movement routines and was starting to incorporate both aspects of what she previously did at the same time and had a hard time doing either of them, so we focused on adding one and stabilizing that practice before adding another aspect so she can gain traction and have the overall treatments work better.

'I will continually endeavor to improve my abilities.'

This is my favorite piece of my oath. One of my favorite movies is The Last Samurai. This reminds me of the quote "They devote themselves to the perfection of whatever they pursue." I love researching ways to improve myself and my leadership. This includes habits and habits stacking, learning new skills, affirmations and the power of mindset, believing in the power to overcome adversity, and researching conditions and treatments for my patients. The last one is the reason why I don't watch medical shows and movies. I get too wrapped up in needing to learn more about whatever condition they are talking about.

The concept of antifragile can be summed up in the phrase "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

This term was created by Nassim Nicholas Taleb in his book Antifragile: Things that Gain from Disorder to describe the way people become stronger through adversity.

Fragile defines a state where stress will break things. Resiliency describes a state where stress occurs and things stay the same. In an antifragile state, stress occurs and things get stronger.

This is how your body was made to heal. And we see it in our day to day life all the time.

🏋️‍♀️ When strength training, your muscles develop small tears. These tears heal in a way that makes them stronger allowing you to lift more as you train more.

🤒 When you get a cold or flu, your immune system creates a note of that bug in it's library so that it can more efficiently fight it off in the future.

🧠 We even see the concept applied to mental health. Facing the things you are afraid of helps you create confidence and overcome adversity. Exposure therapy is one of the most effective ways to overcome and desensitize yourself from past trauma.

Just a reminder:
You are designed to be strong. You are designed to overcome adversity. You've got this!

Self-care is all about taking care of your body and mind so that you can be your best self. Putting others first is important and often necessary, but make sure to give yourself that same care and attention.

Coffee is a part of our morning routine at the clinic and it happens to be national Coffee Day! (brought to us by Peet's Coffee ☕)

Although the roast, how it's made, and how much cream and sugar can vary, the smell and caffeine of fresh brewed coffee is a great motivator to start the day. 😊
