Happy Fry-Day! 🍳

Today we made corn fritters... but this wasn't just about lunch.

This was occupational therapy.

While cooking, we were working on:
🌽 Standing tolerance
💪 Functional strength
⚖️ Dynamic balance
🚶 Safe walker use
🧠 Problem-solving and sequencing
❤️ Energy conservation

🏡 The skills needed to stay independent at home

Cooking is one of the most meaningful occupations many people have. It's about more than food—it's about confidence, purpose, routines, family traditions, and maintaining the freedom to live life on your own terms.

Sometimes therapy doesn't look like therapy... and that's exactly the point.

Helping people keep doing the things that matter most. ❤️

After a spinal cord injury, life changes dramatically. Thanks to talented inventors, therapists, physicians and the gift of motivation, walking with an exoskeleton is possible.

Getting into a standing position, taking steps, growing confidence are key. It helps with digestion, pain, muscle spasms, mental health, recovery, circulation, coordination, balance and more.

Join us this Saturday at NeuAbility for their BLOCK PARTY!!!! Come grab a bite, win some prizes, see their adaptive gym, meet our team and have some fun! All are welcome!

If you are a PT, PTA, OTR, or OTA and are interested in possibly working at this inspiring place, take the opportunity to come and check it out.

Join us tomorrow July 30 at 8am online for a FREE one-hour CEU.

Did you know higher fall risk leads to a 40% increase in automobile accidents? Our job as therapists is not to get people of the road. Our job is to put things in place to make being on the road safer and at the optimal level of independence.

Want to know more? Join us tomorrow at 8am online to learn from Terri Cassidy, Occupational Therapist, Certified Driving Rehab Specialist and owner of Fitness to Drive.

All are welcome! Link in comments below.

Last week, I learned this lesson the hard way.

Even as an occupational therapist who talks about health all the time, I ended up with heat exhaustion after spending too much time outside in this Colorado heat. It came on faster than I expected, and it reminded me how important it is to recognize the signs before they become something much more serious.

☀️ Heat Exhaustion can include: • Heavy sweating • Dizziness or feeling faint • Weakness and fatigue • Headache • Nausea • Cool, clammy skin • Fast pulse

🚨 Heat Stroke is a medical emergency. Warning signs include: • Body temperature over 104°F • Confusion or altered thinking • Slurred speech • Hot, red skin (may or may not be sweating) • Seizures • Loss of consciousness

If you suspect heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

Who is most at risk? ❤️ Older adults ❤️ Young children ❤️ People with chronic medical conditions ❤️ Athletes and outdoor workers ❤️ Anyone taking medications that affect hydration or sweating

A few simple things can make a huge difference: 💧 Drink water before you feel thirsty. 🧢 Wear light-colored, breathable clothing. 🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning. ⏰ Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. ⚡ Listen to your body. If you feel "off," don't try to push through it.

Colorado summers are beautiful, but they can be deceptively intense. I share this because it happened to me, and if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.

Take care of yourselves, check on your loved ones, and stay cool out there. ❤️ Happy Tip Tuesday!

One of the coolest things we experience as mobile outpatient therapists is the diversity of the caseloads we carry.

Check out what one of our therapists treated yesterday with her clients. We have the privilege of walking alongside all different kinds of people and it is rewarding as a practitioner.

Want to learn more about mobile outpatient services? Are you a therapist curious about it? A potential patient or interested family member? A community partner hoping to collaborate? Reach out! Would love to share and connect. 🥰

Check out that smile! Sharon, a client of Fitness to Drive participated in therapy for adaptive driving equipment. Our job, as therapists, is to keep people independent and safe--including on the road!

As we celebrate independence in July, we hope you'll join us (and invite a friend) for our Clinicians and Comrades continuing education session. We aim for every attendee to walk away with a golden nugget or two that can go right into action in patient care.

Not only will you hear from Fitness to Drive and understand more about driving assessments, rehab and services but you will walk away with a handy checklist you can refer to for resources around Colorado for all things promoting independence!!

Happy Tip Tuesday!

These are the dog days of summer where temps reach up into the triple digits and the risks of dehydration increase. Older adults are particularly at risk for dehydration so let's talk about what to look for.

☀️ Dry mouth
☀️ Rapid heart rate
☀️ Dizziness
☀️ Confusion
☀️ Extreme fatigue

Prevent dehydration by increasing your water intake, eating more fruits and vegetables and consider electrolyte replacement (check with your doctor first!).

Take care out there and plan your outdoor activities in the cooler mornings or evenings if you can.

Happy Tip Tuesday!
