Autonomy is powerful, but you don’t have to walk the path alone.
In this video, Dr. Kari Colen shares her professional evolution—from her early days practicing with her parents in New York City to running her own solo practice in New Jersey. While she loved the excitement of being her own boss, she also knows the unique challenges that come with working in isolation.
That’s why joining ARSA was a game-changer.
Dr. Colen found more than just a new workplace; she found a network of supportive colleagues committed to her success.

This September, we celebrate Women in Medicine Month—a time to recognize the achievements and contributions of women physicians while also highlighting the ongoing advocacy needed to address the professional challenges they face.

From the classroom and research lab to the clinic and operating room, women physicians, residents, and medical students are shaping the future of healthcare every single day.

While women make up a significant portion of the medical workforce, inequities remain. Let's use this month to support the women who are on the frontlines of care.

How are you celebrating Women in Medicine Month? Share your stories with us below!

True surgical innovation happens when extraordinary minds collaborate.

Our physicians recently published groundbreaking research in the Annals of Vascular Surgery: "Diaphragmatic Paralysis Following Thoracic Outlet Decompression: An Evaluation of Secondary Phrenic Nerve Reconstruction for Salvage."

Congratulations to Dr. Kaufman, Dr. Shah, Dr. Nevitt, and Dr. Jarrahy on this pivotal contribution to reconstructive medicine.

By pooling expertise across our network, ARSA continues to make the impossible possible for patients nationwide.

This year, Dr. Eric Chang has continued to advance the field of reconstructive surgery through education, collaboration, and innovation—connecting with leading surgeons and experts across the globe.

From sharing his expertise in microsurgery, lymphedema, breast reconstruction, and limb salvage at major national and international meetings across Australia, Europe, and the U.S., to educating the next generation of surgeons through hands-on training programs, Dr. Chang has remained dedicated to advancing surgical techniques and improving patient care.

This year also marked important milestones, including contributing to New Jersey’s first successful robotic mastectomies and tissue expander procedures, exploring emerging technologies in robotic microsurgery, and continuing to expand the possibilities of advanced breast reconstruction.

We’re proud to see Dr. Chang representing The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction on the global stage and look forward to the continued innovation, collaboration, and impact he will bring in the second half of the year and beyond.
