Thinking about starting a detox or gut cleanse? Read this first.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people jumping into parasite cleanses, detox programs, or multiple supplements because they want to feel better.

Instead, they end up feeling worse.

• Headaches
• Brain fog
• Fatigue
• Bloating
• Nausea
• Muscle aches

Many people in the wellness world call this a "Herx reaction." A true Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction is a recognized inflammatory response that occurs when treating certain bacterial infections. If you feel worse after starting a detox or cleanse, it doesn't necessarily mean the protocol is working. It may be a sign to slow down and reassess your approach.

Before trying to remove anything from the body, make sure the body's normal detoxification and elimination systems have what they need to function well. That means paying attention to things like hydration, nutrition, sleep, regular bowel movements, movement, and healthy liver and kidney function.

Just as importantly, don't overlook the most common reasons people don't feel well in the first place:

• Insulin resistance
• Chronic stress
• Poor sleep
• Nutrient deficiencies
• Gut dysfunction
• Hormone imbalances
• Chronic inflammation

These are much more common than parasites or heavy metal toxicity and are often where I begin my evaluation. At Vitality, my goal isn't to put you on a detox program and send you home with a bag full of supplements. It's to figure out what's actually contributing to your symptoms and help you decide where to start. The right treatment at the wrong time is still the wrong treatment.

Yayy! Casey's is finally open! 🙌 They have one of my favorite work snacks.

One thing I wouldn't buy there, though, is the frozen strawberries. If there's one conventionally grown fruit I try to avoid, it's strawberries. They tend to have some of the highest pesticide residues and are almost always on the EWG Dirty Dozen list.

PCOS is more than irregular periods.

Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) affects millions of women, yet many are told their only treatment options are birth control or Metformin.

While medications can absolutely play an important role for some women, they don't always address what's contributing to PCOS in the first place.

For many women, PCOS is closely linked to insulin resistance, chronic low-grade inflammation, and hormone imbalance.

One of the biggest drivers is insulin resistance. When insulin levels remain elevated, the ovaries can produce more testosterone and other androgens, making it harder to ovulate normally. This creates a cycle of hormone imbalance that can worsen symptoms over time.

A root-cause approach focuses on supporting the body's underlying physiology by:

🥗 Improving blood sugar regulation
💪 Building muscle and exercising regularly
🥬 Eating a whole-food, anti-inflammatory diet
😴 Prioritizing quality sleep
🧘 Managing chronic stress
🩺 Identifying nutrient deficiencies and other contributing factors

For some women, targeted supplements or medications may also be appropriate based on their individual needs and goals.

PCOS is also associated with an increased risk of:

• Prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes
• Metabolic syndrome
• Fatty liver disease
• High cholesterol
• Cardiovascular disease

At Vitality, we believe every woman deserves to understand why her hormones are out of balance—not just how to manage the symptoms.

Your hormones are sending a message. Understanding that message is the first step toward better health. 💙💚

Does fasting really work?

Yes—but like most things in health, it depends on the person, the goal, and how it's done.

Fasting isn't magic, but it does trigger some powerful processes inside the body.

🧹 Autophagy: Your body's cleanup crew
When you go without food for a period of time, your cells begin a process called autophagy—essentially "self-eating." That sounds alarming, but it's actually a normal recycling process where cells break down and remove damaged proteins and worn-out cellular components, then reuse the building blocks to make healthier ones.
Think of it as your body taking out the cellular trash.

🧬 Helping clear senescent cells
As we age, some cells become senescent—they stop functioning normally but don't die when they should. Instead, they can release inflammatory chemicals that affect nearby tissues.
Research suggests that fasting and calorie restriction may help the body clear some of these dysfunctional cells more effectively by activating normal cellular maintenance pathways. While fasting isn't a cure or guaranteed way to eliminate senescent cells, it may support the body's natural repair systems.

🩸 Improving insulin sensitivity
Every time we eat—especially refined carbohydrates—our insulin rises.
Periods without food allow insulin levels to fall, giving your body a chance to:
✔️ Improve insulin sensitivity
✔️ Access stored body fat for energy
✔️ Reduce chronically elevated insulin levels ✔️ Improve metabolic flexibility
For many people with insulin resistance or prediabetes, this can be a valuable tool when combined with healthy nutrition and exercise.

⚠️ Fasting isn't for everyone.

At Vitality, we view fasting as one tool in the toolbox, not the entire toolbox. When paired with nutrient-dense foods, quality sleep, regular movement, and stress management, it can be a powerful strategy for improving metabolic health and supporting healthy aging.

Your body is constantly repairing itself. Sometimes the best thing we can do is simply give it the opportunity. 💙💚

🎒 Back-to-School Immunization Reminder 📚

With the school year just around the corner, we've been getting lots of questions about required immunizations.

While Vitality IV Therapy & Wellness does not administer vaccines in our clinic, we can provide a prescription for Pelzel's Hometown Pharmacy in Pilot Point to administer the Tdap and meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccines for children 12 years of age and older.

Texas does not require students to receive vaccines to attend school but you must have a Texas vaccine exemption affidavit on file with your child's school.

If you need:
✅ A prescription for Tdap and meningococcal vaccines through Hometown Pharmacy
✅ Assistance obtaining your Texas vaccine exemption affidavit

We're happy to help. Give us a call or send us a message, and we'll help you get ready for the new school year!

Inflammation isn't your enemy... chronic inflammation is.

Inflammation is one of your body's greatest survival tools. When you cut your finger or catch a virus, your immune system creates acute inflammation to protect you, repair damage, and restore balance.

The problem begins when inflammation never turns off.

Over time, chronic, low-grade inflammation can contribute to many of today's most common health conditions, including:

❤️ Heart disease
🩸 Prediabetes & Type 2 diabetes
🦴 Arthritis
🧠 Cognitive decline
🛡️ Autoimmune conditions
⚖️ Obesity & metabolic syndrome

Common signs may include: • Fatigue • Joint aches or stiffness • Digestive issues • Headaches • Skin problems • Brain fog • Difficulty losing weight

So what causes chronic inflammation?

❌ Ultra-processed foods
❌ Excess sugar and refined carbohydrates
❌ Poor sleep
❌ Chronic stress
❌ Sedentary lifestyle
❌ Gut imbalances
❌ Food sensitivities
❌ Poor blood sugar control

The good news? Your daily choices can make a difference.

An anti-inflammatory lifestyle focuses on:

🥗 Colorful fruits and vegetables
🐟 Omega-3-rich fish
🫒 Healthy fats like olive oil and avocado
🫘 Beans and legumes
🌾 Whole grains
🫚 Herbs and spices like ginger and turmeric 🚶 Regular movement
😴 Quality sleep
🧘 Stress management

Finding and addressing the root cause is often the most important step toward better health. 💚💙
