When a patient experiencing active migraines came into the Emergency department, nurse Doni Dockemeyer took a holistic approach to providing care.

In addition to providing medication, Dockemeyer took the extra step of

dimming the lights and providing a warm blanket. This made all the difference for the patient.

“I understood the care I was receiving and felt more in control of a situation in which I originally felt I had lost control. I rarely come to the Emergency department, but this is by far my best experience ever, and I attribute it all to the care that Doni provided,” says the patient.

Because of her attention to detail and personalized care, Dockemeyer received a DAISY Award, which recognizes nurses who provide especially compassionate care.

Please join us in congratulating Doni Dockemeyer on her award!

Providing exceptional care is something that comes naturally to nurse Leedavid Resto.

While caring for a pediatric patient in the Emergency department who was scared of receiving medication intravenously (IV), Resto talked his patient through the entire process and provided patience and compassion. Resto’s patient eventually felt comfortable and safe enough for Resto to insert an IV to provide proper medication.

Because of Resto’s compassion and care, he received a DAISY Award, which recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to provide compassionate care.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking such great care of our kiddo. My words will never be enough to express our gratitude. IU Health Tipton Hospital is such a phenomenal place for care and the team showed that SO well,” says the patient’s mother.

In celebration of this week, we’re celebrating nurses and the powerful impact they make in our community.

like Dustin Allen, RN, BSN, who serves as a charge nurse on the ICU/Med-Surg unit here at Tipton Hospital, where he works night shifts. Nearly 10 years into his nursing career, he says one of the things he values most about Tipton is the strong sense of teamwork and community.

Before joining Tipton in January 2025, Allen worked in emergency care, intensive care and long-term care leadership roles, including serving as a director of nursing focused on helping struggling facilities improve operations and meet regulatory standards.

At Tipton, he found something different: a smaller, tight-knit hospital environment where nurses rely heavily on one another and often build lasting relationships with patients and families.

Allen’s open about the fact that, before coming to Tipton, he was beginning to feel burned out from nursing. But finding the right environment—and the right team—made a meaningful difference.

His team members help him through hard shifts and difficult cases, and patients are grateful for their community hospital. For Allen, it’s this sense of community that defines the culture at Tipton.

Even after nearly a decade in nursing, Allen says the most rewarding part of the profession is still knowing he’s helping people—patients, families and fellow nurses alike.

For many families, doing laundry is a routine task. But for those without reliable access to a washer or dryer, it can be a significant challenge.

Tipton team members recently came together to help address that challenge for local families, partnering once again with Firefly Children & Family Alliance’s Family Resource Center to host Laundry Lift, a program offering free laundry services to community members. Team members also distributed free household cleaning kits stocked with essentials like microfiber cloths, dish sponges, dish soap, multipurpose cleaner and window cleaner.

In total, the team helped 12 families complete 34 washer loads and 23 dryer loads of laundry, and they distributed 10 cleaning kits.

New to the Laundry Lift event this year, IU Health’s clinical outreach team was also on-site offering health screenings—providing an additional opportunity to connect community members with care resources while continuing to build awareness of available services.

We got a head start on our Earth Day efforts last week, working together to support a cleaner campus and community.

Nearly 20 team members participated in a campus clean-up, walking the hospital grounds and adjacent community walking path to pick up trash and debris.

The group’s efforts reflect the care that Tipton team members bring not only to their work inside the hospital’s walls, but to the broader community as well.

Investing in the health and well-being of our community goes beyond our hospital walls, and this is a great example of that.

It was an honor to celebrate with community partners at the groundbreaking of Tipton’s new baseball fields. We’re proud to sponsor this space and support opportunities for local youth to grow, play and thrive.

When occupational therapist Amanda Petker took on a new patient with multiple concerns, she knew she would leave no stone unturned.

While investigating potential sources of her patient’s pain and tremors, Petker found out that several lymphadenectomies (a procedure where a lymph node is removed) and an incorrectly healed mastectomy scar were likely to blame for her patient’s pain and discomfort.

“Her treatment plan then began with massaging my mastectomy scar, my whole arm and all of the muscles surrounding that area. She also gave me handouts for at home stretches and exercises,” says the patient.

Present day, seven months after the patient’s first appointment, she is able to do activities for a much longer duration than before her treatment and has a significant decrease in discomfort.

In recognition of her exemplary care for this patient, Petker recently received an Aspen Award. Please join us in congratulating her on her award!

IU Health Tipton Hospital’s Infusion Therapy space recently underwent several updates designed to enhance comfort and expand access for patients, as well as support the team members who deliver care every day.

One of the most significant updates is the addition of a fourth infusion chair, increasing capacity and allowing for more scheduling flexibility.

Each therapy space now includes an individual TV, providing added comfort and personalization during treatment. Cosmetic enhancements, including new flooring and a fresh coat of paint in patient rooms, further contribute to a calming and refreshed environment.

Improvements weren’t limited to patient-facing areas. The infusion therapy team now benefits from a redesigned, larger workspace built to better support workflow and efficiency.

Additional updates are planned throughout the year as the team continues to evolve this space to best serve patients and the community.

When Brand Manager Kara Bishop joined IU Health nearly nine years ago, she brought with her a simple but powerful question: How can we meet people where they are?

What began as a handful of community events has since grown into a vibrant, multi-county partnership strategy that helped IU Health connect with thousands of residents last year.

By the end of 2025, IU Health had a presence at more than 150 community events across the legacy West Region, which includes Arnett, Frankfort, Tipton and White Memorial hospitals.

“I’m a strong believer in connecting with the community—not just inside our walls when they come to us but going out in the community and meeting people where they are,” Bishop says. “People want to see us in the places that matter to them.”

Last week, in honor of , which is also observed as a National Day of Service, IU Health Tipton team members volunteered to assemble 200 snack kits to support local students in Tipton County.

The snack kits include items such as applesauce, trail mix, granola bars and popcorn. They’re donated to schools for students who may come to school without snacks, or for use in the Buddy Bag program, which provides weekly food support to students in both Tipton County school systems.

The Tipton team partnered with West Street Christian Church to help distribute the kits to the local schools.
