Happy National Doctors' Day!
I want to celebrate the hard work of my fellow colleagues, teachers, and mentors. You inspire me to be the best I can be for myself and for our current and future patients.

I love being a doctor. I love being a neurosurgeon. Despite the chronic stress, the long hours, the missed social gathering with friends and missed chinese new year celebrations with family, the carpel tunnel syndrome, the headaches, both figurative from dealing with denials of insurance companies, and literal migraines from lack of sleep and focus through the microscope for hours at a time, it's all worth it. Healing one patient or saving one life makes it all worth it. Thank you to my colleagues, my OR team, and my mentors. And thank you to my patients who entrusted me more than a thousand times with your life.

Happy Thanksgiving! This is a great success story of woman who was almost completely blinded by a Giant 7cm brain tumor and regained her vision after a successful surgery.

Meghan Russell first noticed her vision loss when trying to renew her driver license. She couldn't believe what caused it.

The OR is quiet, the lights are dimmed. I'm in the zone...
..immersed in intricate brain anatomy under high magnification of the operating microscope, totally lost in time and oblivious to the need to drink or use the bathroom, hours and hours ago by as I carefully remove a highly complex brain tumor. (This image is not the actual photo of the patient's tumor)

What a privilege. What an awesome job to be able to cure some from a devastating diagnosis of brain tumor with only my hands. (The light beam from my left hand is not a Lazer, but a reflection of the microscope light off the suction cannula)

Complex anterior cerebral artery aneurysm, not amenable for endovascular treatment, completely obliterated with a single surgical clip with preservation normal arterial anatomy. This patient is cured.

It was a year ago that this story came out about the amazing recovery of Brian Murphy, who I did an emergency cranitomy for a large life treathening epidural hematoma after he suffered a bike accident. He was herniating, on death's door. Thanks to our amazing trauma and OR team, I was able to perform this time critical surgery to save his life! Using robotic technology and computer image guidance to maximize precision for spine surgery. Technolgy doesn't replaced excellent technique and good doctoring...but it make us better for the patients. We should embrace it!
