Jennifer Garcia,
I was praying and your mother I could hear her and I could see her for when she prayed for you and this is what I heard so I looked it up and I wanted to share it with you. There are some around you that you should pray for some you may not even know, but put your hands together and tell your mother to teach you to pray like this. I was told this is the blessed mother of Guatemala.
In Guatemala, the Blessed Mother is most widely loved and revered as Our Lady of the Rosary (Nuestra Señora del Rosario), who was declared the Patroness and Queen of the nation.
The Story of Our Lady of the Rosary in Guatemala
The beautiful, historic statue of Our Lady of the Rosary resides in the Basilica of Santo Domingo in Guatemala City. Sculpted completely out of pure silver in 1592 by unknown master craftsmen, she holds a large rosary in her right hand and carries the Child Jesus in her left arm.
A beloved local tradition says that when the Virgin Mary was traveling through the Americas, the Child Jesus fell fast asleep when they reached Guatemala. Because He was sleeping so peacefully, she chose to stay there forever.
During the fight for independence in 1821, leaders of the movement proclaimed her the protector of the new nation, taking an oath before her image. She was canonically crowned as the Queen of Guatemala in 1934. To this day, the entire month of October is dedicated to her, drawing thousands of pilgrims who come to fill her sanctuary with prayers, vibrant paper decorations, and the scent of sweet incense.
A Prayer to Break the Thirst of Addiction
This prayer addresses the spiritual and physical exhaustion of addiction, asking the Blessed Mother to replace the painful craving for substances or harmful habits with a deep, lasting spiritual fulfillment.
Blessed Mother, Queen of Guatemala,
You who hold the Source of Living Water in your arms, look down with a mother’s fierce and tender love upon all those who are trapped in the heavy chains of addiction. We lift up those whose bodies, minds, and souls are exhausted by the relentless cycle of dependency.
Mother of Comfort, you know the deep pain, isolation, and emptiness that drive a soul to seek escape. We ask you to intervene today. By your powerful intercession, quiet the storm of anxiety and break the power of temptation. Pour out the grace of your Son, Jesus, into the broken spaces of their hearts.
We pray that their profound thirst may no longer be directed toward things that destroy, but instead be quenched by the healing, life-giving water of divine love and self-respect. Grant them the courage to face each day, the strength to heal from past wounds, and a supportive community to lift them up.
Enfold their families in your mantle of peace, and restore what has been stolen. Guide every soul fighting this battle out of the shadows of dependency and into the brilliant light of freedom and purpose.
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.
Amen.
