Air Quality Action days for both Particulate Matter (PM2.5) and Ozone have been declared for Wednesday July 15th and Thursday July 16th.
Sensitive individuals, including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly, and the young should limit strenuous activities and the amount of time active outdoors. Persistent high pressure will allow for westerly winds, sunny skies, and hot temperatures reaching the upper 90s to low 100s across the region, with heat indices as high as 110 degrees.
As a result, ozone levels will reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category in central and southern New Jersey.
Additionally, fine particulate levels are forecast to rise to the USG category in northern New Jersey and central portions of the state as wildfire smoke from Canadian wildfires begins to filter into the region from north to south. Smoke is expected to arrive in northernmost portions of the state by early afternoon, before gradually transporting to the south as the evening/overnight hours progress.
