POV: When your most challenging client is also your daughter 😂💆‍♀️

All jokes aside, there’s actually something important behind this reel. Sometimes a client comes to the table feeling apprehensive, overwhelmed, overstimulated, or simply having a hard time regulating their emotions — and how we respond as therapists matters.

A few things I always try to remember:

✨ Slow down your voice and your movements.
✨ Stay calm and grounded — your energy can help create a sense of safety.
✨ Check in often instead of assuming something feels good.
✨ If a technique is uncomfortable, adjust it. The goal isn’t to push through discomfort.
✨ Keep inviting feedback: pressure, positioning, temperature, technique — all of it.
✨ Most importantly, work with your client, not just on them.

Massage is more than knowing anatomy and techniques. It’s also knowing how to listen, adapt, communicate, and meet the person on your table where they are that day.

And sometimes… they really do test all of those skills. 😂😂

When swelling turns into HARDNESS, pulling & puckering after J-Plasma… it’s time to pay attention. 👀

This before & after shows the progress we achieved with careful, progressive post-operative fibrosis and superficial fascia work. ✨

After J-Plasma/Renuvion, some tissue contraction is expected—it’s part of what creates the skin-tightening effect. But during healing, some clients can develop areas that feel hard, dense, tethered or uneven, with skin that may appear puckered, wrinkled or “shriveled.”

Our goal is NOT to aggressively “break up” the tissue or undo the tightening effect of J-Plasma.

Instead, once the client is appropriately healed and cleared for treatment, we work progressively to:

✨ Improve superficial fascial mobility
✨ Address areas of restriction and tethering
✨ Support lymphatic flow & lingering edema
✨ Soften areas of postoperative induration
✨ Encourage smoother movement between the skin and underlying tissues
✨ Improve the overall appearance and feel of the treated area

Timing and technique matter. Fibrosis work should be progressive—not painful or overly aggressive simply because the tissue feels hard.

These results demonstrate why post-op care isn’t just about lymphatic drainage. As healing progresses, the treatment needs to progress with it. 💜

Every surgical recovery is different, and concerning or unusual changes should always be evaluated by the treating surgeon.

Meet Christian, our newest Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist at Light Bodies! 💜

Christian specializes in Sports Massage and Therapeutic Massage, combining targeted muscle work with intentional relaxation techniques to help improve mobility, address muscular tension, support recovery, and keep the nervous system feeling safe throughout the session.

In this session, Christian is focusing on the muscles that support and stabilize the shoulder, including all four rotator cuff muscles:

✨ Supraspinatus
✨ Infraspinatus
✨ Teres Minor
✨ Subscapularis

…along with the latissimus dorsi and surrounding shoulder and scapular tissues.

What makes this work different? It’s not just about applying more pressure.

Christian alternates focused therapeutic techniques with slower, calming movements—giving the body time to settle between deeper, more specific work. The goal is to create an experience that is therapeutic AND relaxing, rather than overwhelming the nervous system.

Whether you’re an athlete, active in the gym, dealing with chronic muscle tension, or simply want massage that is a little more targeted, Christian is an incredible addition to the Light Bodies team! 💪💜
You can get on his schedule Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Cupping isn’t just about where you place the cup—it’s about understanding anatomy. 👏

When treating pain along the medial border of the scapula, I don’t place cups directly on the shoulder blade. Instead, I target the attachment points of the rhomboids and levator scapulae, where trigger points, fascial restrictions, and muscle adhesions commonly develop.

Strategic cup placement over the muscle tissue can help address areas of tension more effectively than placing a cup on bone, where it won’t create the same tissue lift.

Every placement has a purpose. Anatomy matters, and precision makes all the difference.

✨ Treat the muscle, not the bone.
