Dorothy Funk-Daves, 94, Topeka, Kansas, passed away after a long and purpose-filled life, surrounded by the love of her family and caregivers. Dorothy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a longtime nurse, caring for patients in hospital settings, a career in which she took great pride. Dorothy’s most important role, however, was caring for her family.

Dorothy was devout in her Catholic faith, providing inspiration to her children and all who knew her. She will be remembered for her caring nature, quiet strength and selflessness.

The family thanks Dorothy’s many dedicated caregivers and friends for their loving concern and care.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2026, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka KS 66604, where the rosary will be prayed at 9:45 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.

Clinton Edward Neff, 98, Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Clinton was born in Baileyville, Kansas, the son of Roy and Mae Walck Neff. He served in the Army Airforce. Clinton married Rita Scott on June 26, 1946, in St. Michael’s Church in Axtell, Kansas. He was a paint foreman in the Topeka State Hospital for 30 years. Clinton enjoyed fishing, camping, playing pitch, travelling and gathering with family.

Clinton is survived by his children, Joyce Dobberke (Dennis), Gary Neff, Bert Neff (Susan), and Carol “Sam” Neill; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Edra Nelson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, parents, three brother, and one sister.

Visitation will be 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2026, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church, 1114 SW 10th, Topeka KS 66604. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2026, in Emmanuel Cemetery, 53rd and Ratner Road, Berryton, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, and sent in care of the funeral home.

Peggy Irene Geier, formerly of Topeka KS, died September 2, 2026, at Hemsley House of Lenexa KS, where she had resided since 2024.

Peggy was born August 15, 1947, in Emporia KS, to Irvin and Viola Chatelain Calvert. She grew up in Waverly KS and graduated from Waverly High School in 1965. She was a small-town girl at heart, and enjoyed her time there, always returning for class reunions and alumni banquets with her sister. Peggy enjoyed reminding her children of her time spent on the Waverly High School cheerleading squad with her sister, cheering on the Waverly Bulldogs.

Peggy married the love of her life, Harry Geier, on August 19, 1967, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waverly, just two short weeks before Harry was deployed for a year-long tour in Vietnam. They eventually settled in Topeka where they raised their children and lived the remainder of their married life.

Peggy was employed at Baker University School of Nursing in Topeka for over thirty years. She loved the connections she made with her students over the years, as well as many of her co-workers. After her retirement, Peggy and Harry enjoyed taking road trips, either by themselves, or with the many close friends they had. They were always up for a new adventure and there was always laughter involved, no matter who they were with. Peggy often greeted loved ones with her famous homemade pies and cookies.

Harold Dale Sage was born on September 10, 1933, in Mission Creek Township, Route #1, Maple Hill, Kansas, to John Leroy and Mary Luella Moran Sage. He attended #6 School in Wabaunsee County and graduated from Dover High School in 1952.

In 1953, Harold enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Riley, Kansas. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in May 1955.

Harold was proud of many things throughout his life, but among his greatest blessings was his wife, Adell Musick Sage. The two were married on June 2, 1957, at the Dover Federated Church and shared 69 wonderful years of marriage.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Sage; his brother, Robert Sage; his sister, Shirley Jepson; his sister-in-law, Caryolne Sage; and his brother-in-law, Fred Jepson.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Adell; his children, Alan Sage (Stephanie) of Camdenton, Missouri; Gail Sage of Lebo, Kansas; Troy Sage (Leighann) of Checotah, Oklahoma; and Anita Kortan (Mike) of Platte City, Missouri.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erin Sage, Candace Edwards, Lexi Sage, Dawnna Hall, Skylar Sage, Mikayla Dendurent, Connor Lucas, Danielle Shineman, Harley Sage, Justin Sage, and Jacob Sage. Harold was fortunate to be blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, who brought additional joy and love to his life.

Ann Wessel Funeral Mass

Steven H. Slough, 76, Topeka, Kansas, passed away on August 10, 2026. He was born on October 19, 1949, to Alfred and Helen Slough.

Steve’s love for sports began at an early age. Throughout his youth, he played football, basketball, baseball, and track. His passion for athletics continued into college, where he played football and baseball at Sterling College. His baseball team was later inducted into the Sterling College Hall of Fame. While at Sterling, Steve earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education, beginning a lifelong dedication to both education and athletics.

Steve’s love of sports remained a constant throughout his life. Whether he was playing, coaching, cheering from the sidelines, or watching his children and grandchildren participate, sports were always a meaningful part of his life.

Steve had a deep passion for education and dedicated more than 50 years to teaching and serving in a variety of educational capacities. One of the greatest joys of his career was encountering current and former students while out and about. Steve loved when they would stop to visit and talk with him, and those moments were a testament to the lasting impact he had on the lives of so many students.

Steve met the love of his life, Judy, in August of 1984 at a mutual friend’s wedding. From that moment on, Steve and Judy were inseparable. They were married on April 13, 1985, and began building their life together.

Ann Bernice Wessel, 93, passed away August 28, 2026, in Topeka, Kansas.

Ann was born on October 24, 1932, in Oneida, Kansas to Bernard “Ben” and Mary Haskamp Stuke. Ann graduated from Wetmore High School in 1950, where she was class president, played on the basketball and volleyball teams, and performed in school plays. She married Adrian Joseph Wessel, on September 9, 1953, and created many happy, loving memories during their 55 years together. Their marriage was a great example to many who knew them.

Ann had a strong, enduring faith and was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. She enjoyed serving funeral dinners and participating in Perpetual Adoration prayer time for many years at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church.

Ann’s children remember her as a kind, patient, and loving mother who was always there for them. Ann cherished her role as a homemaker, wife and mother. After her children were older, she served lunch at Crestview Elementary and Hope Academy. She volunteered part time at Findables Resale store that supported hospice. She enjoyed family dinners, playing cards, weekly Bingo with Aunt Rosie, doing embroidery, Sunday crossword puzzles with her daughters, and anytime the whole family got together. Ann learned to cook from her mother, and we were blessed with her amazing dinners every night of the week. Her sons and sons-in-law especially enjoyed her baking skills. Elizabeth Jane “Betsy” Yadon passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026. She was born June 17, 1956, in Topeka, Kansas to Mike and Clare Guth Yadon.

Betsy grew up in Topeka attending McEacheron, Jardine, and French schools; and graduated from Topeka West Highschool in 1974. She attended University of Kansas. Betsy worked at BCBS, LMH, AMR, Valeo, and Stormont-Vail Hospital.

Betsy had a love for animals, especially rescuing dogs, cats, and horses. She especially had a passion for her own animals, Abbie, Lobo, and her cats.

Betsy leaves behind a brother, James (Mary) Yadon; sister, Mary (Marc) Thompson; brother-in-law, Kevin Keefer; three nieces, Marissa Thompson, Kelsey Yadon, Danielle (Greg) Alba. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Clare Yadon, sister, Patricia Yadon Keefer, and infant brother, Michael Yadon.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. with memorial service following at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Joseph Niemackl, who left us peacefully on August 17, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 12, 1962, in Topeka, Kansas, Doug was a beacon of joy and kindness, whose laughter and warmth touched everyone he met. A genuine person with a kind soul, Doug brightened everyone's day and was a true friend to all.

Doug was the cherished son of the late Duane and Luana Niemackl. His parents instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion which he carried throughout his life. He is deeply mourned by his beloved wife of 25 years, Linda S. Virr-Niemackl, whom he met in Topeka at a local cafe Doug operated with his sister. Their love story began over a shared cup of coffee and blossomed into a beautiful marriage.

A proud graduate of Hayden High School (Class of 1981), Doug built a successful career in the contracting industry. His entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic shone throughout his life, but his true dedication belonged to his family, his friends, and his community.

Doug's life was defined by the deep connections he built with others. For Doug, hobbies were simply a backdrop for camaraderie. An avid outdoorsman, he spent countless hours fishing the waters of Canada, his home state of Kansas, and Minnesota, where he was a member of the Silver Pike Club.
