For Norma Barajas and her daughter Charlene Ramirez, becoming nurses was a journey they took together—through school, family responsibilities, setbacks, and second chances.
After years of persistence, both joined Torrance Memorial Medical Center through the New Graduate RN Residency Program. Their path wasn’t immediate—they first worked as patient care technicians, gaining hands-on experience and learning the hospital environment before reapplying and being accepted into the program.
Today, they’re beginning their nursing careers side by side in a program built to support new graduates with mentorship, training, and a strong sense of community.
Their story is a reminder that the path to nursing isn’t always straight—but with determination and the right support, it can lead exactly where you’re meant to be.
