Lymphatic massage is a light pressure massage technique that encouages the natural drainage of lymphatic fluid, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart.

By facilitating movement of lymph fluid and promoting circulation, this helps reduce swelling and inflammation. Applyiing these techniques to the neck, chest and underarm areas can help with breastfeeding issues like engorgement, clogged ducts and mastitis.

Taping for Breastfeeding Challenges

Taping techniques can be applied in a variety of placements with different amounts of stretch tension to facilitate decompression of lymph nodes and blood vessels and further assist with drainage of the breast.

Taping can be a useful adjunct to therapy and something patients can learn to apply on their own to maintain progress between treatment sessions, however skin integrity should always be examined first since some individuals can be sensitive to the taping adhesive.

Doming when you sit up. A core that feels disconnected. Lower back pain that just won't quit.

Sound familiar? You might have DRA, and you're not alone.

Quick thing to know: DRA is normal during pregnancy. Every single pregnant person has it (but we can work on the doming!).
But postpartum it should resolve (within 12 weeks postpartum) and when it doesn't, that's something we can work on!

It's Diastasis Recti Awareness Month - let's start with the basics. 🀍
DRA (Diastasis Re**us Abdominis) is the stretching of the connective tissue β€” called the linea alba β€” that runs down the center of your abdominal wall. During pregnancy, it stretches to make room for your growing baby. It happens to 100% of pregnant people. And for up to 36%, it sticks around after birth.
It can show up anywhere along your abdomen β€” above, at, or below the belly button β€” and looks different on every body.

As pelvic floor therapists, when we assess DRA we're looking at four things:
β˜‘οΈ Length
β˜‘οΈ Width
β˜‘οΈ Depth β€” the integrity of the connective tissue itself
β˜‘οΈ Behavior β€” doming or herniation during movement and daily activities
Because it's not just about the gap. It's about how your whole core is functioning.

This is your sign to stop wondering and start getting answers.

Summer in the South Bay hits different. 🌊
But for a lot of us, this season also brings up stuff β€” swimsuits postpartum, leaking at the beach, avoiding the trampoline with your kids. Summer can feel like a lot.
You deserve to be fully present this summer. Not planning around your body.
Pelvic floor therapy is the place. Come on in β€” there's still plenty of summer left
