The first Friday in September each year we celebrate the hard work, dedication, and kindness of the people involved with the Food Bank. National Food Bank Day was founded in 2017 by St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix, Arizona, to recognize the vital work of food banks and raise awareness about food insecurity. It honors the staff and volunteers who keep food banks running year-round and encourages collective action to ensure no one goes to bed hungry. In the U.S., food banks help about 42 million people each year, providing food to those facing poverty, illness, job loss, or other hardships.

Join us in thanking our amazing delivery drivers who make the 4th Thursday of the month here at Valley Village one we look forward to!

The NOFA-VT CSA Farm Share Program is underway, and residents of Valley Village and Putney Meadows have received their first delivery of fresh produce from Walker Farm in Dummerston, Vermont!

For the next 10 weeks, participating residents will enjoy a weekly share of organic, locally grown fruits and vegetables at no cost, thanks to funding from the USDA and a partnership among the Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL), the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT), and the Vermont Department for Children and Families (DCF).

Valley Village has proudly partnered with Walker Farm through this program for more than 15 years. Each growing season, residents look forward to a wonderful variety of fresh produce, which may include beans, beets, berries, carrots, corn, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, summer squash, Swiss chard, tomatoes, zucchini, and more.

We are grateful for this long-standing partnership that helps make healthy, local food accessible while supporting Vermont farmers.

Did you know July 23 was National Gorgeous Grandma Day? We celebrated all of our Gorgeous Grandmas (and other lovely ladies) in both the independent living and assisted living facilities.

The ladies in our independent living community enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of pampering at a spa day! The fun began with light snacks, sparkling strawberry juice, and soothing finger soaks. They then chose their favorite facial masks and nail polish colors for a little extra indulgence.

In the assisted living, spa treatments in the morning were followed by a celebratory ice cream social in the afternoon.

When you think about it, shouldn't every day be Gorgeous Grandma Day?

Last month, we had the pleasure of welcoming a Leland & Gray student who gave an engaging presentation about Brook Trout. We always enjoy opportunities to connect with local students, and these intergenerational experiences are one of the many things that make Townshend and the West River Valley so special.
