Every clinician's learning journey is different, but one thing remains the same: growth doesn't end when the training does.

This National Wellness Month, we're recognizing that emotional wellness is just as important as physical health. For many people, unresolved distress can have a lasting impact on daily life—but effective, evidence-based treatments like EMDR can help.

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that helps clients process distressing experiences and move forward with greater resilience. While it's best known for treating trauma, EMDR can also support individuals experiencing anxiety, chronic stress, and other challenges when clinically appropriate.

Supporting emotional wellness means recognizing that healing looks different for everyone. For clinicians, learning evidence-based approaches like EMDR can strengthen clinical skills and expand treatment options.

Evidence-based practice is more than keeping up with the latest research—it's about integrating the best available evidence, your clinical expertise, and your client's values to make thoughtful, individualized treatment decisions.

When these three elements work together, clinicians can provide care that's both scientifically informed and responsive to each person's unique needs.

Continuing education plays an important role in staying current with emerging research, refining clinical judgment, and strengthening evidence-based skills throughout your career.

One of the most common questions we receive is who can enroll in EMDR Basic Training.

Our EMDR Basic Training is designed for licensed mental health professionals, including psychologists, clinical social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, and psychiatrists. Graduate students completing supervised internship or practicum placements may also be eligible.

Participants should have completed their graduate training and hold a license that allows them to independently practice psychotherapy.

Some of the most common beliefs about trauma aren't supported by what we know from research or clinical practice.

As our understanding of trauma continues to evolve, so should the way we assess, conceptualize, and support our clients. Challenging long-held misconceptions helps us provide care that is more accurate, more compassionate, and more effective.

Whether you're new to trauma work or have been practicing for years, continuing to learn is one of the best ways to strengthen your clinical skills and better serve the people who trust you with their care.
