I have three requests because it's been a tough day hearing that four more seniors are going to be living in their cars soon. (This is not a laughing matter.)

1. Please share this post.
2. If you are a Senior and very low- medium income and considering moving into some sort of rental, please know there is a long wait list. Please plan a year or more in advance and get on wait lists. Discuss amongst your friends and consider sharing the rent in a house or apartment.
3. If you are a long term rental landlord and have thoughts of making your rentals into short term B&B's, please consider the tennants you have been providing shelter for. Please give them time to find new housing. Especially those who are on a fixed income and unable to work. Two months notice is not enough notice.

I cannot tell you how many calls a day I receive from older men and women, who are being forced out of the mobile home parks and house rentals because lot rents have increased (but income has not) and those landlords who want their rentals to be used for AirBnBs or other family members.

Please know, I am not against mobile home parks or AirBnBs and if you want/need to increase your incomes, that may be what you need to do. However, please know that any lower rent or low income housing has a 1-2 YEAR WAIT LIST. You are telling your tennants they have 1-6 months to find a new place. There IS NOT anything available; not in Traverse City, nor the surrounding towns.

Please, let's take care of those who have sacrificed, those who are widowed, be compassionate about their situations and everyone please plan ahead.

It is so easy to think of Memorial Day as the first picnic of the summer or getting the extended weekend. I have done it many times in the past. I meet many wartime Veteran's in my line of work; they are humble as you see their eyes drift into a memory of a fallen soldier, maybe it was a freind or family member. I have met a few nurses who worked along the lines. They change the subject when you ask questions about their experience. This year, I'm thinking more of my late brother, who did not fight in a war, but was incredibly proud to serve his country for 20 years. I do not know what you all went through, nor can I imagine. However, I am so very grateful for those who have lost their lives for my sake.

We are all so grateful for those who served, kept us updated, and protected us during this storm. I just felt like I needed to also make you aware of ALL those who showed up to take care of our vulnerable and older adult population in the various senior homes. Owners, administrators, caregiving staff and kitchen staff that spent the night in facilities to ensure the residents were cared for and fed, throughout the day and night. WOW, just wow! Such committment, compassion and love for what they do! 🥰🥰🥰
