We've added another "4-H Fun with Art in the Garden" 6-week session for ages 5-12 years, at the T.C. Community Garden at the Botanic Gardens in Traverse City, Mondays (beginning the Monday after Memorial Day), 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Looking forward to an exciting summer practicing mindfulness and creativity in the garden with our young leaders, artists and gardeners!

Please join us for fun adventures in nature, nurturing resilience, kindness, community & creativity. This youth events are designed to encourage sustainability & growth from the inside out through a fun & engaging hands-on approach. THIS EVENT IS FREE. Happy Spring! Strawberries are one of my absolute favorite berries to grow and harvest in the garden! Not only are they delicious, but they also add such natural beauty and colorful accents against the prevalent green garden foliage. Whether they're prepared in a smoothie, salad or simply eaten fresh all by themselves, they speak a language all of their own. Strawberries will continue to be a garden staple, as it's now time to start my little strawberry seedlings.

Strawberries are members of the rose family, and each seed is separate flower in itself. They're always blooming, bursting, bleeding scent into every food they're paired, blended and mixed with, pouring sweet vitality into all they touch. -Victoria Brick

Strawberry Trivia:
Strawberries contain more vitamin C than citrus per ounce.
Although strawberries are quite sweet, they are low in sugar
Strawberries contain many antioxidants and fiber
There is an average of 200 seeds per strawberry
The potassium they contain may help control blood pressure levels
Studies show that if we eat strawberries 2 times a week, we may delay cognitive aging (memory, attention and processing speed of the information in the brain) for up to 2 ½ years!

As the winter garden slowly comes to an end, I am filled with gratitude to have nourished my family, as well as for the challenges and wonderful lessons learned throughout a most frigid season. The snow-kissed purple cabbage had a very sweet and tender taste with subtle earthy undertones. Although both are delicious, there was definitely a difference in taste between the fall/winter and spring/summer harvests. It was also fun to share the winter veggies with our furry friends. Join me in embracing it all!

Many times, we want everything to be perfect before we launch that special project, performance, book, blog and/or garden. Thoughts of inadequacy, insecurity and perfectionism can hinder growth and work against us propelling towards our God given purpose, so much so, we become stagnant. It's time to cut the binds of fear and self-doubt releasing thoughts of what could have been, should have been or would have been...Instead gravitating towards what WILL be through unfathomable faith and the belief that ALL things are possible...Today we begin where we are...as we are... planting the seeds within our minds, our hearts and our soul's soil with positivity, productivity and peace...
