Recovery Court Family Picnic 2026

What a great evening at our Recovery Court Family Picnic!

Recovery Court is about much more than overcoming addiction. It is about rebuilding lives, restoring families, creating accountability, and surrounding participants with a support system that helps them succeed. Recovery is hard work, but it is a journey no one should have to walk alone.

Tonight was a reminder of that as participants, family members, graduates, staff, and supporters came together for food, fellowship, laughter, and a little friendly competition. The highlight of the evening may have been our dizzy baseball game, where it quickly became clear that spinning around a bat is a lot easier than running a straight line afterward! There were plenty of laughs, great memories, and a few “athletic performances” that probably won’t be making any highlight reels.

We are grateful for everyone who attended and helped make the evening special. Recovery happens one day at a time, but events like this remind us that recovery also happens together. Thank you for being part of a program that believes people can change, families can heal, and hope is always worth fighting for.

Please be aware! When this ban goes into effect, someone you may know could suffer from withdrawal symptoms!!

Tennessee’s ban on kratom goes into effect on July 1, after lawmakers classified the substance as “gas station heroin.”

The upcoming ban is creating challenges for both retailers and addiction treatment providers. Many stores are expected to lose significant revenue, while health professionals are concerned that removing kratom could lead some users to return to stronger opioids.

Kratom, sold in forms such as powders and capsules, has been used by some people for pain relief and to help reduce opioid dependence. However, it also carries risks of addiction and difficult withdrawal symptoms.

Treatment centers worry that the sudden ban may cause short-term problems, particularly for those who have been using kratom as a way to stay away from more dangerous drugs.

Businesses that sell kratom are preparing for major losses. Some companies are already stopping shipments to Tennessee and moving operations out of state to avoid the ban. There are also concerns that some users may turn to the black market once the product becomes unavailable.

Important Update: THCA products will also be banned in Tennessee starting July 1.

Clinics are encouraging people who currently use kratom to make plans and seek support before the deadline arrives. While opioid use has been declining in some areas, there is worry that this change could slow or reverse that progress.

🎓 We are honored to have Miss Chloe Rimmer, sophomore at University of Mississippi, and Miss Chandra McClinton, sophomore at University of Tennessee at Martin, with us today for our Job Shadow Program here in General Sessions Court.

It’s always encouraging to see young leaders taking an interest in the legal system, public service, and the justice process firsthand. Experiences like these help shape the next generation of attorneys, judges, law enforcement officers, and community leaders.

We appreciate both of them spending part of their day with us, and we hope today gives them valuable insight into the real-world side of law and criminal justice. ⚖️👏
