After an incredible journey, my time at FirstMD has come to an end.

Why do I do what I do?

Because I’ve seen what pain can take away from people.

Before becoming a chiropractor, I served as an Army Combat Medic and Nurse. Throughout my career, I cared for people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. One thing became clear to me: too many people are told to simply live with their pain.

I don’t believe that.

I believe the body is powerful and has an innate ability to heal when given the right opportunity. I believe people deserve answers, not just temporary relief. They deserve to understand why they’re hurting and have someone willing to listen to their story.

What motivates me most isn’t helping people feel better for a day. It’s seeing them get back to the things that matter most to them—playing with their kids, exercising without fear, sleeping through the night, returning to work, or simply enjoying life again.

Every person who walks through my door has a story. Being trusted to be a small part of that journey is something I never take for granted.

Today I want to honor the memory of CPT Sean Grimes, PA-C, and the soldiers who were killed alongside him on March 4, 2005 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq: Sgt. 1st Class Donald W. Eacho, Cpl. Stephen M. McGowan, and Spc. Wade Michael Twyman.

CPT Grimes was the first Physician Assistant killed in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served where many medical providers willingly stand, right beside the men they cared for in the middle of war.

I served with CPT Sean Grimes in the 212th MASH, but it wasn’t until years later, while serving in a Reserve unit in Seattle, WA, that I learned a training area in our unit was being dedicated in his honor. As we went through the details of the ceremony, I reflected more deeply on his sacrifice and the impact he left behind.

What impacted me most was meeting his family. I had the opportunity to share experiences and memories of military service with them, and it reminded me how deeply service and sacrifice affect not only the soldier, but everyone who loves them.

As a medic and healthcare provider in the military, there’s a bond that comes with understanding what it means to care for others in difficult environments. CPT Grimes represented that commitment fully. He answered the call to serve others and gave his life doing it.

Gone, but never forgotten.
