Hello, friends! It’s time to make the belated announcement that my family and I have moved to North Carolina!

While I was supporting families in West Virginia, my husband and I were also serving in full-time ministry to teens at a local church in Bridgeport. God has called us into church planting, a mission that’s been very close to our hearts for about a decade now. So in July we accepted that call and moved our family 5 hours away to the Lake Norman area to start a network of home churches! We are beyond excited!

I don’t know yet if I will be working as a doula in NC. As much as I LOVE birth and supporting families through one of the biggest seasons of their lives, it is really challenging to be on call and working overnight when so much is happening in our family life.

I have loved — and am so grateful for — every moment of support and every birth I’ve been able to be a part of. Birth work isn’t done with me yet, but I’m pushing pause for this season.

Thank you for being with me on this journey, and thank you from the depths of my heart to every family who trusted me to join your story! It was a ln honor!

Witnessing a birth always feels miraculous. And getting to speak power, life, strength, and peace into women as they do the incredible work of labor is such an honor.

Feeling the sun on your face after supporting an overnight labor is just magic.

The strength and vulnerability that emerges during labor and birth is an incredible thing. Birth has a way of pushing a woman completely to her breaking point, just to erupt into one of the most incredible moments of her life as she comes face to face with her baby.

There’s a reason unmedicated birth feels like a spiritual process, not just a physical one. This huge thing is required of you to begin your journey as a mother, and you can draw the strength and ability only from your connection to yourself, your baby, and God.

It can be the single hardest thing when you’re in it, and yet the absolute greatest thing when you look back afterward and realize your unfathomable strength, beauty, and perseverance.

Mothers, after you give birth I pray that you look at yourself and your body with so much love and gratitude. You have laid yourself bare, and given heart and soul to bring your baby earthside. It’s no small gift.

And your motherhood is no small thing.

If you’re trying to get in your daily dates at the end of pregnancy, smoothies are one of the yummiest ways! One of my clients loves this recipe.

And yes, eating dates at the end of pregnancy is a research-backed way to help prep your cervix for labor!

Cinnamon date smoothie is an extra creamy and perfectly sweet recipe that reminds me of a cinnamon roll with added healthy benefits.

Birth and postpartum are times in your life when you don’t want to wing it! Putting intentional thought into your choices for yourself and your family, and then taking the time to communicate with your loved ones, will serve you so well.

Obviously these six things don’t make an exhaustive list. But these are some of the tricky areas in which good communication will be a life saver. Overwhelmed? Just start with one, and see how much more prepared you feel. 💪

And if there is a conversation that feels icky and awkward, trust me: it will be 10 times harder to have the conversation when you are sleep deprived, recovering from birth, and living with postpartum hormones. You have it in you, friend. And you will thank yourself later.

If you’re a first-time parent, talk to your doula or other parents about potential challenges to help you plan! This area of decision-making and communication is one I love to cover with my doula clients.

The new mom in your life probably doesn’t need (or want) you to take her baby from her. If she wants a break from her baby, she’ll ask.

She does need you to see her, hear her, make space for her experience and her feelings, and for heaven’s sake, FEED her!

Surround her with love, care, and support, as she does the same for her baby. 💜
