From a Community Partner, The Community Food Truck
I have gotten a few messages about our blessing boxes being empty and while it might seem like our ministry is not reaching those in need, I think we have found a special niche to reach lots of people in our community. We have a different volunteer stock the blessing boxes every day of the week, but sometimes that one assigned volunteer is just not enough. If you regularly pass a box that seems empty a lot, most likely there are several people or families in that area that are relying on this anonymous food just to get by. We could not do what we do without the many people who stop by on their way to work, after school or on their way home from the grocery to drop off a few things. The non-perishable food that you put in our food trucks goes directly to families in our community and it is amazing how quickly it gets taken. Wonder how much food we can go through in a week? Our blessing boxes can easily go through 100+ boxes of cereal, 100+ cans of canned pasta meals and soup, 75+ packs of ramen noodle cups and packs, 50+ boxes of Mac n' Cheese, 75+ Hormel Compleat meals and tuna kits, dozens of boxes of pasta and pasta sauce, 50+ cans of meat, 350+ individually packaged snacks, and we never have enough juice boxes, shelf stable milk, Gatorade or water bottles in our boxes. Sometimes the need seems overwhelming, but then I remember what kind of community we live in.... one that cares about each other! Can you help us keep those empty food trucks full? If you can help us on an assigned day, please reach out and we can give you more details. If your schedule is unpredictable, could you be one of the amazing anonymous donors who drop off non-perishable food in the boxes without us even knowing? Do you have a small group that could collect food for our food trucks and then use that food to fill the boxes as your schedule allows? The only thing we ask is that only non-perishable food gets put in the food trucks and no glass right now because it will break in the cold weather. Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much!
