Here at Eddy Memorial, one of the things we strive for is keeping our center clean, comfortable, and in ship-shape for our cherished residents. To that end, we congratulate Jennifer Franklin, environmental services aide, who has been named our June Employee of the Month. Please join Eddy Memorial in congratulating our latest CNA graduate, Racquel Stewart! Racquel completed her training last month right here at EMGC and has now joined the Eddy Memorial team as a CNA on the 11 am - 7 pm shift! Racquel loves caring for others. Last year, she moved her brother Roan into her home to care for him personally as he was in Hospice care battling cancer. He was the inspiration for her to train to become a volunteer for The Community Hospice after his passing. Now, Racquel continues her journey as a CNA to help nursing home seniors. Congratulations, Racquel, Roan would be proud! ❤

Welcome to our Courtyard dementia unit at Eddy Memorial where we believe that "Every Resident is a Different Kind of Flower and All Together Make the World a Beautiful Garden." Here, our team, from nurses to activities and housekeeping all work hard to care for our residents and to engage them in activities to make them feel at home. Shout out to all the residents and staff in this special "garden," especially activities member Mary Hubicki, who made the beautiful bulletin board reflecting our philosophy. Please join Eddy Memorial as we celebrate this National Older Americans Month in full swing. We have lots of special activities and surprises in store this month. Check out the fun we had last week for National Nursing Home Week, including a visit from Ponies for Hire, which brought baby chicks, goats, and other small animals that residents got to hold. (The baby bunnies were especially soft, cute, and cuddly with our residents!) We also held a Sports Day where our team dressed to the theme and served up popcorn, soft pretzels, and cheese fries to our residents. Not to be upstaged, even our resident mascot kitties and pup got in on the fun dressing up for a Hawaiian luau. Stay tuned to see what surprises we have ahead! Happy National Older Americans Month!

Did you know it's National Nursing Home Week? We have planned a week chock full of fun activities here at Eddy Memorial. The theme is "Moments in Bloom," reflecting how everyday acts of compassion, connection, and teamwork grow into meaningful experiences for residents, families, and staff. It celebrates the idea that big and small moments, when nurtured, can flourish to help residents live life to the fullest and with purpose.

The Eddy Memorial team kicked the week off with all kinds of fun for residents, from flower arranging classes to a visit from Cutie Pie the Clown who stopped by to make balloon creations for the seniors. We also put up a tree in the lobby showcasing cherished photos of our residents and their families collected for this special occasion. Stay tuned for more fun to come! If you thought shaving cream was just for shaving, then do we have something COOL to show you! Using nothing but shaving cream and a few drops of color dyes, the residents at our Frear Unit here at Eddy Memorial each created their own marvelous marble effects on paper! But that's not all! After that, each resident channeled their own inner artist to create their own unique effects on the marbled paper using foam brushes and stencils. The result was not only cool, it was nothing short of "a stroke of genius" for each of our crafting residents who absolutely LOVED the creative process. “That was really FUN,” they echoed. Kudos to our Activities Team for implementing that crafty idea! Cheers to all our residents this May as we celebrate National Older Americans Month!

Here at Eddy Memorial, our residents really care about the environment and try to always be earth-conscious! Last week, we celebrated Earth Day with a Happy Hour and served dirt pudding (chocolate pudding, Oreo crumbles, and gummy worms) which is always a hit. Residents engaged with each other and talked about ways they could help REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE! We also took time to be grateful for our favorite things on this earth – the beach, the mountains, and animals among them. What is YOUR favorite thing on earth that you're grateful for?

Here at Eddy Memorial, we just LOVE our furry feline friends! You might even say they're the cat's meow! Check out resident Gene dangling a fishing wand as he teases "Biggie," who is a big boy and a very good boy, too! Biggie and his fellow feline, Lizzy, are our two mascots who live in our Memory Care Unit. Biggie often stretches out on the floor near our nurse’s station, happily soaking up the attention. He also likes to make himself comfy in a recliner where he gets lots of adoration and petting! ❤

Poodle skirts, rock and roll, and root beer floats... those were the days! And here at Eddy Memorial, we brought back those beloved times with a Sock Hop here to celebrate that fun time. There was live entertainment from Mike & Barb Hurley who filled the air with all the hits from the 60’s and 70’s to delight our residents. The party was not complete, of course, without our special cherry coke and ice cream sundaes! Mmm... needless to say, our residents had a BLAST!
