Happy Halloween from BMC Troy!

Halloween can be a lot for kids. Between the costumes, the crowds, the sugar, and the pressure to be brave, a lot of little nervous systems get overwhelmed, and that's completely normal.

If the night brought big feelings or a meltdown, it doesn't mean you did anything wrong. It just means your child needed a little extra support. However you celebrate, we hope it's a good one!

New group alert: Tension Release Exercise (TRE) is coming to BMC Troy!

We're excited to share that Dan Omans, LMSW, is leading a TRE group this fall. TRE is a somatic, body-based stress management tool that activates the body's natural tremor reflex to calm the nervous system and release muscular tension.

Who: Adults 18+ who want a body-based stress management tool and are able to engage in moderate exercise
When: 11:30am-12:30pm on Oct 24, Nov 21, Dec 19, and Jan 16
Where: In person, Lower Level of Behavioral Medical Center, Troy

Your insurance may cover group therapy. If not, the cost is $50 per session. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a thick floor mat and a water bottle.

A 2025 graduate of Wayne State University's PMHNP program, she provides compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults. She has also served as a clinical instructor at Oakland University for the past 20 years.

🎓 Celebrating an Exceptional Academic and Professional Milestone!

It is with great pride that we announce Karen Teves-Frazier, DNP, MA, PMHNP-BC, FNP- BC, LPC , earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Hawai‘i Pacific University on May 10, 2026.

Dr. Teves-Frazier's doctoral work culminated in the evidence-based practice project, “Identifying Patients with Sleep Apnea Using the STOP-Bang in an Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic.” The project focused on identifying psychiatric patients at increased risk for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) —an often under recognized condition that may contribute to or exacerbate symptoms such as depression, anxiety, fatigue, impaired concentration, and sleep disturbance. Dr. Teves-Frazier continues her clinical practice at the Behavioral Medical Center - Troy , providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment to patients from age 6 through adulthood.

This is a four-session group for parents of neurodivergent children. This compassionate series is designed to help parents connect, learn, and gain practical tools to better support their child - and themselves.

Topics include coping with a diagnosis or school certification, navigating the IEP/504 process, parenting a neurodivergent child, and teaming with your child's school.
