September is National Recovery Month and we want to take a moment to share where this all started 🐦‍⬛

Before Crow’s Nest Ranch was a treatment center, we were a non-profit showing up for our Truckee-Tahoe neighbors. Free Refuge Recovery meetings. Free SMART Recovery gatherings. Twice-weekly fitness open to anyone seeking recovery, no cost, no catch. Just people walking alongside other people.

That was the foundation. Service first. Always.

Fast forward to today and nothing about that has changed.

Through our non-profit Radical Recovery, we still host free recovery meetings right here at our office, plus monthly all-recovery meetups and outdoor outings for the whole community. Whatever your path looks like, there is a seat for you here.

No admin hoops. No judgment. Just real connection and warm conversation 🤝

📍 10775 Pioneer Trail, Suite 214, Truckee, CA 💛 Donations only. No RSVP needed. Just show up.

This is not a business strategy. It is who we are.

Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai on a treatment program's schedule might seem unexpected. But neuroscience shows these disciplines literally rebuild the part of the brain addiction damages most, the prefrontal cortex, restoring impulse control and self-belief from the ground up. At Crow's Nest Ranch, mat time is therapy. Read more to see the research behind it.

Cold water exposure triggers a dopamine release in the brain comparable to co***ne, but without the crash. For people in recovery, that distinction is everything. At Crow's Nest Ranch in North Lake Tahoe, our clients have Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, and the Truckee River right outside our door, and cold water therapy is a real part of how healing happens here. Read more to see the science behind it.

🏥 THE STEP-DOWN DIFFERENCE AT CROW’S NEST 🔄

Leaving residential treatment is not a finish line. It is one of the most vulnerable moments in your entire recovery journey.

🧠 Biology, Not Weakness: In early recovery, your brain and body are still recalibrating. Sleep disruption, mood swings, unpredictable cravings, and elevated stress are not signs that you are failing. They are the normal biology of a healing nervous system, and they require ongoing clinical support, not a cold hand-off.

🏛 Addiction Is a Chronic Condition: ASAM classifies addiction as a chronic medical condition, not a one-time event.

🥼NIDA research confirms it: longer engagement in treatment consistently produces better long-term outcomes. Chronic conditions require continuity of care, not just one intensive episode followed by a short stint of group therapy behind a screen or in a fluorescent lit room.

⚡ The Combination That Works: Sober living plus outpatient treatment is a powerful step-down model because each element does something the others cannot.

- Sober living provides a structured, drug-free environment with peer accountability

- Outpatient treatment provides clinical therapy (CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, DBR, neurofeedback), skills training, and ongoing monitoring

- Together, they close the gap between residential care and full independence

🏔 At Crow’s Nest Ranch, we treat discharge as a clinical transition, not an administrative event. Your step-down plan is individualized, evidence-based, and built around the full picture of who you are. From therapy and neurofeedback to yoga, Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, and outdoor adventure, we give you real tools for the real world.

Step-down care matters most when cravings spike, anxiety intensifies, your home environment may be an initial high-risk stressor, or other factors that are present.

That is exactly when a stronger structure saves lives and mitigates treatment recidivism.

This week marked our first official week of bringing Yoga for Recovery out to Donner Lake Beach as part of our summer morning routine offerings. These are the mornings we look forward to all year. Summer gives us the chance to pair consistent clinical and recovery structure with the grounding access we have to the outdoors here in Tahoe.

Our weekly Wednesday morning yoga group is always special, but something shifts when we are practicing on the beach. The setting naturally invites people to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with their body in a way that feels both simple and meaningful. Even our most anti-morning patients have admitted these mornings are worth the early alarms.

After our guided practice, one patient led the charge to run to the end of the pier and dive into Donner Lake’s fresh water to cool off. A few others followed shortly after.

It was a small moment, but it captured a bigger theme we see often in recovery. When people are supported, connected, and willing to show up, they begin to rediscover joy, confidence, and a sense of aliveness that many thought they had lost.

We are grateful to be able to offer these experiences as part of the care and community we build at Crow’s Nest Ranch Outpatient and Radical Recovery. Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership.

Happy Friday everyone!

🌲🏂 Welcome to “The Art of Shreditation” where mindfulness meets movement and adventure 🛶🚵‍♀️

At Crow’s Nest Ranch Sober Living and Outpatient, we believe recovery should feel ALIVE. That’s why we blend mindfulness, movement, and adventure to help you rediscover presence, purpose, and pure stoke.

🌊 Shreditation is the flow state you hit when you’re snowboarding, surfing, skating, biking, or even just paddling across Lake Tahoe. It’s about being fully in the moment, with body and mind in sync.

This past winter, we took our people to enjoy epic turns in community here in Tahoe for some serious shreditation therapy:

✅ Sober rides
✅ Big laughs
✅ Deep breaths
✅ High fives
✅ Real healing

Now, as summer rolls in, we’re gearing up for shreditations in the summer season:

🧭 Hiking the Tahoe National Forest
🚴‍♂️ Ripping trails on bikes
🏄‍♀️ Paddling Lake Tahoe
🛹 Skating concrete curves
🚤
AND MORE!

🎯 Recovery doesn’t stop life, it redefines and changes terrain.

📿 Your new favorite mantra: Turn on. Tune in. Breathe out and shred on.

🔗 If you or someone you love is ready for a recovery lifestyle rooted in joy, movement, and community—you belong here.

4 years ago today, Deanna McRae Brandt crossed over the rainbow bridge and it is in her memory that I started Crow’s Nest Ranch.

They say grief is a daily loss, but I’ve found the opposite to be true. She isn’t gone; she’s right here in the work, in the community, and in this rose tattoo.

Thank you, Mom, for the life you lived and for the fire you started in me.

The path stays lit because of you.

All the love,

Your son. Jordan Brandt - Founder, CEO

👊 YOUR RITUALS, YOUR RECOVERY 🔄

Your daily rituals aren’t just habits. They’re the foundation of a life you’re actively building.

During addiction, life feels chaotic and out of control. But when you establish rituals, things you choose to do the same way, every single day, you reclaim ownership of your future.

🧠 Brain Rewiring: Each ritual strengthens your prefrontal cortex, the part responsible for decision-making and self-control. Your brain learns: “I do what I say I’m going to do.” Over time, this builds genuine confidence and self-trust that sticks.

⚡ Ownership & Agency: A morning meditation.

A daily workout. An evening reflection. These small, intentional choices send a powerful message: “I’m in charge of my life now.” You shift from feeling like a victim of circumstances to becoming the architect of your own future.

📊 The Evidence: Studies show people with consistent daily rituals experience:

• 40% reduction in anxiety and depression
• Stronger sense of agency and control
• Higher long-term recovery success rates
• Improved emotional regulation and resilience
• Greater life satisfaction and purpose

🏔️ At Crow’s Nest Ranch, we help you build rituals that work.

Whether it’s a morning practice, daily movement (workout, yoga, a walk in nature), evening reflection, or connection check-ins, we create the space and support for you to establish practices that transform your life.

These rituals aren’t just for while you’re here. They’re tools you take with you. When you leave Crow’s Nest Ranch, you know how to show up for yourself, keep your commitments, and sustain the life you’ve built.

Ready to reclaim ownership of your recovery? Let’s build this together.
