We had an awesome time hosting a recovery tent in vendor village for the 2026 Silver Belt Classic at this past weekend! It’s our third year being involved and we love every second of it. Plus, we got to say goodbye to the gondola (and the ski season) as the resort prepares to renovate.

Thank you to our friends at Sugar Bowl, congrats to all the athletes who participated, and thanks to all who came by to hang out!

🎀”WOMENS SUPPLEMENTING”🎀

Creatine doesn’t care about your gender.
Protein doesn’t either.
The supplement industry has figured out that “for women” sells — even when the ingredients are identical.

Yes, women have hormonal differences.
No, that doesn’t mean we need glitter creatine.

Strength physiology is largely shared. And the more we market women as fragile or fundamentally different, the more we reinforce the idea that they need special, smaller, toned-down versions of everything.

That’s not empowerment. That’s packaging.

🎀WOMEN-SPECIFIC PROGRAMMING🎀

Many times, expensive programs and marketing target women with women-specific fitness products or classes. The messaging emphasizes avoiding “bulking” and emphasizes “toning”.

Overall, meeting minimal physical activity guidelines is the most important thing - this is across all genders. In addition, progressively overloading muscles to adapt and increase strength and capacity is also important.

However you choose to exercise, it should be challenging and enjoyable to create both consistency and progressive overload. There is no real difference between how men and women adapt to exercise, programs should be based on each persons goals and health status.

Don’t fall for/pay the pink tax! Let Ascent Tahoe create a program specific to YOU!

🌸PINK TAX: Cycle Syncing🌸

“Cycle Syncing” is a huge topic on social media, often promoted by fitness and healthcare “influencers” - but what is it and is it supported by science?

The idea behind the trend seems yo make sense - hormonal fluctuations DO happen during the menstrual cycle and people have varying degrees of discomfort/fatigue/etc. HOWEVER - does it actually require adjustments in training based on phase?

Research that supports cycle syncing is usually adapted from animal models or isolated lab models. True human-based research shows that training according to cycle phase leads to NO DIFFERENCES in muscle strength, growth, or adaptation.

Once again, a narrative targets women and creates barriers to entry in the fitness space. Basic training principles win - training should be SPECIFIC, PROGRESSIVELY LOADED, and based on AUTOREGULATION - no matter what phase of the menstrual cycle you are in.
